High Ping and Latency

Hi all!

Thank you for all the tracerts and feedback. We are currently experiencing a higher than normal customer data usage which will affect throughput during busy hours. Network optimization is in progress which will address the issue. A resolve is expected by next week Wednesday (18/07/2012).

Apologies for the inconvenience

It might be a good move to stop the i5 promo for new clients til you guys can actually cater for the higher volumes that this deal will obviously cause. Just saying.

Happy to hear but I hope it stays fixed.

You can take my download speed away if you guarantee me a solid ping at all times.

Thanks for your responce 8ta.. much appreciated, hope there is a speedy resolution for this issue as it is effecting everyone , Nationally..

We as community/clients shall keep you updated on your progress. :P

Agreed fully , i wouldnt mind having 150kb download and 60kb upload if the ping would just stay stable.. maybe not a bad way too solve this issue.. lets hope its as easy as that.

I would kill just to get to either of those speeds at any time.

Not sure if this can work but what about having a gaming apn? You restrict the download speed to say 50kbps and all the gamers can dial up with that apn for a smooth experience at all times.

You can even start a gaming promo :D

My experience with 8ta's latency is it's mostly around 40-80ms which is good enough. It is for the most part very stable for me other than this recent problem. It can rain even hail outside and i'm still good :)

Hi 8ta, is this going to affect all areas or just certain areas?

Hi there

All areas unfortunately. There should be no break in service at all.

So... Interesting!

Downloaded HSPA Locker as recommended on another thread, and here are the results - I did 2 traces right after one another, one with HSPA Locker and the other without. See the results, and I will give you 2 guesses which one is which :o

So clearly there is a problem with the switching between HSPA and the idle 3G mode, it clearly has a delay in realising when 'stuff is happening'.

The pings are acceptable when at it's best, but not during gaming.

Hope this helps 8ta :)

EDIT: For reference, PingTest.net results:

Trace 1 - with HSPA Locker:

Trace 2 - without:

:D :wtf: Astonishing!!!

How is it that the very night that the problem is supposed to be "resolved" that the whole crappy ping during peak hours gremlin comes to haunt us again, after nearly a week of it being fine?

Code:
tracert www.telkom.co.za

Yep, Montgomery Park, very high latency, not switching over to HSUPA from 3G for looooong periods before pages start loading.
