Two down, too many go.
Inspector Solomon Mbele said the shooting started in Wyebank's Aster Road in Pinetown and proceeded through several residential streets late on Thursday night.
Earlier a man and his teenage daughter were hijacked in their carport at 9.30pm and taken on a terror ride.
"They were robbed of cash and cellphones and dropped off in the Zamokuhle area, bordering Pinetown," said Mbele.
Police were alerted and the hijacked car was spotted nearby.
"A high speed car chase ensued and the suspects opened fire on police, who retaliated," he said.
The hijacked car came to a halt on Marigold Road.
"The occupants jumped out and continued firing and police managed to apprehend two of the men," said Mbele.
The third hijacker fled on foot.
No one was injured in the shootout.
"The 18 and 20-year-old suspects are due to appear in court on Monday to face hijacking and attempted murder charges," Mbele said. - Sapa
