Hisense Q8600 Thread

Hi folks, I am strongly considering picking up a Hisense TV now as opposed to getting a Samsung model. Was initially considering the 55/65 Samsung RU7100 but starting to lean towards either the 55/65 Hisense Q8600 or the B8000.

From what I've seen there have been issues with DSTV Now streaming on the Hisense panels, is this still an issue or does the latest firmware update resolve this? Also, are there any issues with other steaming services like YouTube and Showmax etc

Would really appreciate any feedback.

Btw, my budget is 8-12k

I don't use DSTv Now often, but the few times I have, I did not have any issues from the TV itself. Streaming performance does take a dip when there's something like world cup matches on but I'm quite sure that's DSTv's problem, perhaps a bandwidth limitation on their CDN.

Great thanks man, I ordered the 55 Q8600 on Friday and it should arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing how it performs.

You won't regret it. Picture quality is amazing, especially in HDR. However I expected more with Dolby Vision on Netflix. Not sure if that's the TV or App.

Very happy with my purchase so far, no picture issues with streaming at all. YouTube, Showmax and DSTV Now all functioning better than expected regarding picture quality. There is so much to tweak to exactly what you want that at times it is a little overwhelming but it is definitely a good problem to have.

What is the equivalent Samsung model of that TV?

I was looking at the 65" version, looks amazing. I have a Nvidia Shield Pro tho, not sure if it'll work correctly with it. Considering going to the store and taking my shield with to test...

Any thoughts?

Does anyone find the BT1886 gamma setting very dark?

I find myself tending to change it to 2.2 or 2 for some content.

HI Stoozak BT1886 is the new media industry equivalent to Gamma 2.4
You should be fine mostly with 2.2 as it preserves better shadow detail

I have a lot of black clouding wrists the best way to minimise it.

Another possible quirk.

My TV outputs to a samsung home theatre via ARC. All other inputs (RPi with Kodi, and a PS4) go into the TV's HMDI port. Surround sound works great for both of those, and the pre-installed Netflix.

However, if I switch to the pre-installed YouTube, then surround sound breaks and does not return.

The only way I can get it back is to turn everything off at the wall. Not ideal.

Anyone experience anything similar?

What Samsung home theater do you have?

Does anyone notice the built-in Youtube app cropping some videos? I tested the same video from external sources and it does not get cut off. Not sure why it would do this.
