Hisense Q8600 Thread

Q8600 is being delivered today!

I spent hours reading thought this thread, reading reviews and researching the the U8QF, U7QF and Q8600 and I decided to go with the Q8600 because it has better brightness than the U7QF and the U8QF has some bad black crush—

It’s here!!!

I have not updated firmware and do not intend to, but I have a PC connected so the "smart" functions being enhanced does not matter to me. If there is a specific fix for something I'd update, but I've yet to specific changelogs for the firmware updates.

Hi, got my Q8600 a few days ago, but having a hell of a time getting it to send Dolby Atmos to my soundbar through the ARC port. Does it have eArc? Is anyone else getting atmos sent to their devices? (Atmos is working on the tv speakers, and its showing the atmos logo, just not sending it to my soundbar)

Did confirm soundbar atmos is working with another device, just not with tv. On firmware J1114
What is your source? TV's built-in player or another device connected via HDMI?

I have a PC connected and it will not pass-through a 5.1 signal from my amplifier. This is a limitation of most ARC (but no eARC) capable TV's. Guess I'll be dropping it in favour of TOSLink now.

@alqassam

Thanks for the replies.

I have tried both internal and external sources. Like I said, the TV is detecting and playing (And showing the logo for) the Atmos, but not passing it to the soundbar. (Soundbar only getting Dolby Surround)
If I connect the external source (PC) directly to the soundbar, it gets the Atmos. But then for some reason, the soundbar is struggling to send the video signals to the TV. (Display has weird colors and motion is juttery.)

So in summary PC -> TV -> Soundbar (Good visuals, but no Atmos on the soundbar)
PC ->Soundbar -> TV (Atmos on soundbar, but bad visuals on TV)

Even if I could get the visuals correct on the TV from the soundbar, I need more than one hdmi input, so would like to make the TV the main input, and have it send audio to soundbar.

If the TV does not have eARC (But only ARC) that is the issue of why I am not getting Atmos from TV to Soundbar I guess.

1. Is sound bar connected to ARC HDMI? (Obvious, I know, but just checking)

2. Switch to the ARC HDMI as an input. Make sure enhanced HDMI is enabled.

3. On the source HDMI (PC) try changing the sound output from passthrough to DD+

There's a setting under HDMI on the TV that changes it from standard HDMI to enhanced HDMI

Anyone else loose the DSTV NOW channel listing? Firmware 1127.
I only have a few channels - has the app been updated.
Is there a side load option on Vidaa?

I don't use Vidaa. But I found this online.

I just found on reddit workaround for smart iptv on Vidaa OS. In TV browser type adress: http://hisense.alexxnb.ru then in list of apps found Smart IPTV and click on green button, after install button turn into red. App is in your apps list.
Another way of adding apps:

1. open on TV stock browser
2. in the address bar, type hisense://debug
3*. on the page type the name of the application and its URL
4. find the application icon in Google. copy and paste the url of the icon
5. Click the INSTALL button
6. can use the app

* lots of applications here -> apptest.staging.foxxum.com

Has anyone been having network issues with the Hisense Showmax app on the Q8600? It's my first time using showmax this past weekend and we got to episode 7 of His Dark Materials before the app bombed out, requiring the TV to have a complete power cycle before I could even use the other apps (Netflix and Youtube) again.

My TV seems to be on v1114 but the Netflix app is from Aug 2020, so I'm assuming the apps are auto-updated separately somehow.

@Hisense SA , do you have any fixes for this?

EDIT SIDE ISSUE: The Showmax app's Picture Settings seem to be reset every time the app is launched. For example, the on-screen Brightness will be low (dark), but the old user setting is still displayed, adjusting it + or-1 will make a huge jump to the user setting. The same problem exists for "Smooth Motion" which turns itself on, even though the setting shows "Off".

Are you looking under “recently watched channels”. If you are, that might explain it as they only show 5 recently watched channel on that menu. You have to navigate to the full list under the other menus.

Nah - nothing in full list at all...

Thanks, Iwojima. That makes sense. There doesn't seem to be anything that needs fixing on mine so I don't need to worry about updating, fortunately.

Checked last night, and yes, the Channel listing is missing. But you can navigate the channels by:
After selecting LiveTV, press BACK on the remote, this brings up the Channel Category ribbon which was previously not visible. I used this to navigate.

Bought another 65Q8600 unboxed deal on Takealot for R13K. Arrived yesterday. I'm shocked by how the screen is almost perfect compared with my first buy. Not even a bit of vignetting. White backgrounds appear white, even on the sides and corners . Guess I won the LED Panel Lottery.

Nice!
Any chance you can post comparison photos?

Hi bought a 55Q8600 on takealot and the panel was absolutely amazing. Dolby vision is beyond brilliant! But I returned it after 20 days because of the motion issues. I couldn't stand the stuttering every so often.

From my use, I think it only handled Dolby Vision Netflix content smoothly.

I used the apps on the unit DSTV Now, Prime Video (Only got HDR), Netflix (Dolby Vision)

I used a FireTV gen 2 that has 4K available.

PC with windows 4K@60hz + HDR. Couldn't really find a game for it, ended up playing some Witcher 3 at 1080p, it felt great.

Everything juddered and bounced up and down constantly giving me headaches. (Smoothing OFF)

The smoothing features didn't help either, it stays smooth for a few seconds and then I get a frameskip or a face blending together into a thin line.

Peoples hands irritated me the most when someone moves there hands while talking it looked as though it was a streak of light moving and not arm and hands individually.

I returned the unit and just now received the 55U7WF.

My dreaded motion issues feel resolved, with all the smoothing off I can see clearly and it feels "normal".

I can concur that there is black crush it does NOT go as bright as the Q8600 and HDR and Dolby Vision is not really Wow as it was with the Q8600.

I'm not really happy yet with my purchase.

Does anyone else have the crazy motion problems I experienced? I'm tempted to try the lottery again with the Q8600

:crying: I'm not even sure if the motion is a per panel thing. And how do I go back to mediocre colour after it.

I can't say I've noticed any motion issues while gaming (PS4) with Game Mode switched on and a bunch of other tweaks for picture clarity. Game Mode should remove the majority of picture processing (and thereby the input lag associated with that).

For use via the Netflix app and the HTPC I have plugged in I have again tweaked the picture settings for clarity/colour, but also went to a custom setting for motion enhancement rather than the preset. I found that judder removal at 2 and blur reduction at 5 was a far better result that any of the presets, striking a good balance between avoiding "Soap Opera Effect" and removing the judder. This is especially true when viewing 24hz content.

I must have got one of the better ones as well. Reading some of the complaints on here before I got mine I felt certain I'd probably end up sending it back, but really the slight vignetting I could find is almost imperceptible in most viewing situations.
