I received this by email and just wondered if anybody can confirm this? It sounds a bit like a hoax to me.

Thankz

"Hi All,
I have just been informed that 15 (fifteen) new speed cameras have been set up in and around the Gauteng area, where GAUTRAIN construction is taking place.
Where speeds have been reduced from 120kph to 80kph, there is a ZERO TOLERANCE factor. NO ADMISSION OF GUILT - and fines are between R8000 and R15000. You will HAVE TO APPEAR IN COURT."

It is a hoax.

However, you know those speed limit signs along the sides of roads? They're not just for decoration. And it is especially dangerous to speed close to construction areas.

Just don't do it(tm).

... But they are so pretty and shiny! :p

Just kidding.. Was just wondering ecspecially due to the no tolerance part - Its only human to exceed 80kmph, eg. 100kmph, by accident when not paying attention to the speedo. :o

Thankz!

Only human, huh?

I suppose it's also "only human" to daydream while driving too fast in dangerous areas, and causing accidents which hurt or maim or kill.

You want be a dumbass and nod off behind the wheel - do it somewhere where I'm not.

It's halfway true.
They did place a few extra cameras around the construction sites, but they do not charge R8000-00 for a fine, normal run-of-the-mill speeding fine.

Got one the other day near Centurion where there were construction going on, that is how I know. 90km/h in a 80km/h zone.

:(

Any proof that this is not R8000 fines

My one friend won't believe me without proof...

Show him the law. Nowhere does it state that they are allowed to charge R50000000 here but just over there it is the normal penalty fees.

I don't think this is a hoax, i drive at the speed limit of 80 on highways because i have seen cops sitting under certain bridges, the strange thing is while i sit going 80 like a flippin granny okes come flying past me doing well over 120 at times, now imagine you get nailed doing 130 in a 80 zone.

Stay at 80 on highways or i think your going to get some nasty surprises in the mail.

I wonder if safety is their motivation should this be real. Mostly they just want to make money out of motorists. Sometimes they'll even take it cash on the side of the road.:D

if I remember correctly, according to laws, polices are NOT ALLOWED to set up speed camera during construction time. Before published in Gazette, no one is allowed to charge you speeding. Questions are,

1) did the construction areas / temporary reduced speed zones published in Gazette but no one knew that?

2) Are metro polices' actions following the LAWs? (Most of the time the metro polices do not act like polices, they do whatever they want to do.)

So, be careful !

Driving south on the N3 from Midrand to Alberton is the worst! There are certain places where the limit is 60. There are certain parts of the road where there are camera signs below the yellow speed limit sign. This is normally the parts of the road when other motorists don't over take me like crazy. All other parts I actually check my rear view mirror every 3 seconds or so just to make sure that some hooligan don't smash me from behind.
