Lanning, 3D Modeling, Emulation, Web Design, Coding, Surfing, collecting/leeching/hoarding Files.

I guess you could say my hobbies are "Puters" :D

i have seen them there as well in that open field, i would prefer solo training first as my dogs might be a bit much around the others, they are a bit hyper.

I live so close to there it is scary, do you stay in Boksburg?

if you are going to get a husky get a malamut!!!!
Yep, well not at the moment since I'm renting an apartment in Braamfontein. I tried the traveling thing from Boksburg to Wits in my first term but found it horrible especially when I spent most of the night studying.

Hey Jouda, is this training which happens on Saturday mornings? I've seen them time to time when passing by from Rondebult road.
I've been thinking of getting a dog, a siberian husky and from what I've read they a lot more work to train.
How does this training work?

Ill PM you guys the trainer's contact details tomorrow (dont have it with me).

The training is basically divided up in about 4 groups, very basic to advanced. It is all obedience training with a bit of agility from time to time for the fun.

The first class is 30 min long and covers the basics like heeling, sitting etc. You do this in a group and the trainer calls out the commands that you and the dog should follow (sit, turn left, turn right etc.). It sounds scary to work with your dog in a piece of open field with other people and their dogs but it is extremely fun and the trainer is extremely good. Off lead exercises only happens after months or even years of training so you dont have to worry.

As you progress and move to later classes which are about an hour long, you start doing send aways for example, where you put a piece of carpet a few paces away from your dog and you then give him the command to go to the carpet, sit on it and down on it.

Once a year you can "write" an exam (extremely rewarding to get a gold certificate for your hard work :D). The exam is basically doing what you practice in class...

Well that's it in a nutshell.

Stopped there this morning, R100 registration and R200 per dog per month, starts Saturday's at 7:30

So are you joining soon?

Yep next Saturday taking my guys through, trainer said we may have to split them up and bring them different times as one could distract the other but we will find out next weekend

Just keep the seeds moist (plenty drainage and just water them daily), as seedlings water them every 2n'd day, as adults wait till the ground is completely dry between watering (stick your finger in the pot and see if it is moist or not).

Time to necro this thread!

2 weeks later, and a lot of my seeds have germinated. I estimate germination rate to be 60% for the seeds I planted less. They are still alive, just waiting for them to grow their second set of leaves before I repot them. Some of the seeds I planted later have also come up. Jalapenos seem to sprout extremely easily. Some of my tabascos and birds eye chillis have also sprouted, although not as many as the jalapenos.

I also tried the trick of putting them into a plastic bag wrapped in moist toilet paper (ie I planted most of my seeds in compost, the ordinary way, and some into plastic bags). I left them for about a week, maybe a little more, and the jalapenos had already sprouted! Ie the leaves and roots had emerged. One or two tabasco seeds had a root emerging, and the birds eye seeds didnt seem much different. In general I found the compost method achieved better results. The packets were left inside the heated seed trays, so they were kept as warm as the compost was. Well, germination mix or whatever I should call it.

This weekend I planted two more varieties of chilli - big jim and hungarian wax.

Quite excited about all this - I think later on in August I'll start putting them outside. I think the danger of frost has passed for JHB, touch wood. Problem now is making sure my seedlings get enough light.

I do Crosswords, Researching, Suduko, Music and several other hobbies in my spare time.

Theres other things I want to do, but never get around to starting those hobbies properly, one of them is model trains.

I still have an interest in model railways, but its a very expensive and time consuming hobby. So growing chillis is my hobby of choice for now!

Maybe one day when I have a huge, empty basement, I can build a model railway in there. Except that I think I'd rather use that basement for a home cinema setup!

a friend and i started a pool club, so i`m trying to practise whenever i can, (almost everyday ) try to improve my skillz. anyone up for a friendly game?

reading, movies, music, gaming are forms of entertainment etc and thus not really considered a hobby i was told once.
