Hi folks

I am glad to announce our latest photo competition: A holiday photo competition.

Please post your best holiday photo (one which you took) in this thread and stand a chance to win one of these prizes:


  • First Prize: R1,000 cash
  • Runner up prize: iPod Shuffle

The competition will close on Wednesday 11 January at 12:00. Multiple entries are allowed (you can post as many photos as you want).

Important

  • Please embed your images in posts for easy viewing (use
    )
  • Only one photo per post please (do NOT embed more than one image per post)
  • Give your image a title (hence add a ‘Post Title’)
  • Say which camera was used and some detail about the photo


The mods will judge the photos, which unfortunately mean that mods may may only enter for fun (sorry Bwana :) ).

Comet Lovejoy

Camera Canon 1000D (18mm, ISO 1600, 30sec, F/3.5)

One of the most stunning and surprising events of the holiday season was the appearance of comet Lovejoy. The comet was discovered by Terry Lovejoy, an Australian, at the start of December. Everyone expected it to plunge into the Sun, but the comet survived a very close fly-by and gave spectacular views.

This image was taken around 03:00 on 27 December and shows the comet rising above the surrounding mountains. It also caught a satellite heading towards the head of the comet (lower left).

At least I know what is expected based on past photo competitions.
 
Working "holiday" in Buffelshoek from the 11th to the 13th November 2011.
Got this neat shot of a Cheetah male yawning while resting in the shade at 5-32pm on Saturday 12th November 2011:

Canon 7D, Canon EF70-200 f4 L IS lens (at 200mm), Aperture: f4, shutter speed: 1/200.
I was working that weekend to take pics for the owner of the game farm and got quite a few decent shots, one of them was this Cheetah.

They were in my garden the other day, sitting on the telephone line and dive bombing for miggies. Tried to get some photo's but they were flying within 1mtr of me, not even my 10-20mm worked, but could have been the lighting as well... late afternoon/early evening and storm in coming :(
