Holocaust denier sent to prison

Which images?

Do you mean the ones from the typhus epidemic, just like the videos they show you from the typhus epidemic, which they pass off as holocaust evidence. Or the photos of the gas chambers they used to fumigate the typhus infected clothes.

People died yes, holocaust, NO. The fact that you need a law that actively prevents you from questioning the story, in so called freedom of speech countries, should have had anybody with a critical brain worried.

And the poster that says, he was sentenced for incitement...BS. Same law, different name - holocaust denial.

You should read up on this case, a holocaust denier (David Irving) tried to sue Penguin for publishing a book by Deborah Lipstadt on holocaust denial. Considering the high burden of proof for the libel cases in the UK it shows the overwhelming evidence that exists confirming the holocaust.

Having considered the various arguments advanced by Irving to assail the effect of the convergent evidence relied upon by the Defendants, it is my conclusion that no objective, fair-minded historian would have serious cause to doubt that there were gas chambers at Auschwitz and that they were operated on a substantial scale to kill hundreds of thousands of Jews,"[62] and "it follows that it is my conclusion that Irving's denials of these propositions were contrary to the evidence."[3] Furthermore, "the allegation that Irving is a racist is also established."[63]

And possibly not all of them Jews.
There were criminals, murderers, pedophiles all dumped together.

Who cares? Even 500k, 200k or 20k Jews is way too much. That was a horrible tragedy, no doubt about it.

The Holocaust is the only event in history that is legislated. That in itself is a crazy thing. It is actually against the law to say it didn't happen. Where else does the so called truth have to be enforced by law??

Does it really make any difference if only say 1 million men, women and children were gassed to death ?

Of course not. Unless I suppose if the people claiming 6million etc were deliberately lying knowing the numbers were (for example) in line with what losses other groups experienced in the camps. There are contexts in which the specific number can be significant, for example when used to build a case of special pleading.

I think however the hard case for holocaust deniers is that nobody was gassed to death, and that most died of cholera/typhus. Arguments involve the actual lack of recording of any orders to gas anyone to death, as well as the lack of evidence for even the existence of gas chambers beyond the anecdotal.

There are many, many proven lies about the holocaust which add fuel to the deniers belief that the full story is not known. The myths about soap being made from the dead etc lingered for many years. Also the accounts of many survivors have been thoroughly debunked by certain scholars beyond doubt. Most of the evidence for the holocaust was retrieved from captured German officers under questionable circumstances and pressures and there's reason to doubt the validity of much of it, rather that documented and recorded as some wrongly believe.

Again, I do think there are interesting questions to be asked about the entire history. I'm not 100% convinced myself that the official version of events is entirely accurate, no 100% convinced that there were no systematic murders carried out.

Some of the countries that have laws against the holocaust also have laws about denying other genocides, the crimes of communists during the war, crimes against humanity.

Straw man attempt. Proves nothing...actually the fact that you cited that as proof just highlights the bankruptcy of the holocaust argument

Ok then, you and Patrick make a good pair.

Of course you can, they both use media to tell make believe and made up stories.

Some Hollywood producers are just as guilty of their own type of propaganda as Joseph Goebbels himself....
Hollywood's version of reality as seen through the eyes of a rich liberal jew producer ....

Most, if not all those examples are specifically about denying the Holocaust (ie Jews being systematically killed by Nazis). The other laws are regarding incitement etc and it seems only Hungary recently expanded the law to include genocide events in general

The point really is that you simply have to mention a doubt as to the ferocity, number and colour of the underpants of the guards to invoke Holocaust laws. All the other laws aimed at preventing incitement, genocide denial etc would be very hard to prosecute.

Pretty bigoted opinion, yes?

I assume you can prove your point if you ever have to explain it in an Equality Court.

Just like the whole round earth thing has been debunked...

I am against Holocaust denial laws in general but I can understand why countries are against having a crime so vile watered down by the passage of time, and the truth cast into doubt by people who have no claim to be historians.

Yup, it constantly amazes me how he thinks people will take him seriously given his demonstrated lack of critical thinking in other areas.

Why? What does the history teach us at all? Genocide is bad, and yes we can use examples to - I don't know - illustrate the affect it can have, but in the end it's all very academic. It really should not be a law at any level.
