I actually added a 12V relay (NT72C IIRC) to my sonoff SV in the gate motor as follows:

12V + and - (from the gate motor supply) to the sonoff + and - power input
sonoff SV output (+ and -) to relay input
relay output (NO contact) to gate motor trigger contacts

Previously, without the above relay, when sonoff triggers it would short the contacts on the gate motor trigger and this is not good. I therefore had to put the above relay in place in order to avoid shorting the "trigger" and "common 12V+" contacts on the gate motor.

If the above isn't very clear I can make a quick schematics or take a few photos of the wiring in my D5.

There's a lot of interest in gates and garages, I'd like to add something to the website blog/forum that I can point people to. So anything you have to offer would be great.

No problem - I've put together a quick schematics to show how this works (currently installed at my place, with a D5 evo gate motor).

Hopefully this helps; the relay can easily be purchased at Communica, Mantech or similar for ~R10 a piece, and requires some basic soldering skills and a bit of time (~10 minutes I would say). Note: as usual, I can't take responsibility for any risk/damages etc. as a result of use of the below.New-Project.png

Have been thinking about doing stuff with my gate as well, but as always my complication is that I need it to operate normally with normal remotes as well...

Damned SO's being all otherwise and backwards.

Easy - you just leave the existing receiver connected in parallel to the trigger terminal.
 
Just chatted to a guy who is using stock firmware with an SV on a gate motor. It surely doesn't pulse without Tasmota?

not as far as i know - did he put anything else in? latch to pulse relay of sorts? perhaps his gate motor supports this (although i would find it hard to believe)..... what gate motor is he using?

natively (and/or without some modifications, such as the relay or similar), i find it almost impossible that a SV with stock firmware can do it on an ordinary gate motor

Why have you added a relay to a SV. Why not just use a normal Sonoff Basic? I have done this with great success. I also linked the status LED through a optocoupler into a GPIO on the Sonoff which gives me reports if the gate is opening (led is flashing) or gate is open (Led is on)

I'm trying to get all solutions here!

Sv runs off 12v. Basic runs off 220

That's what I thought. He insisted he wasn't giving away his solutions because then he wouldn't have a job as an installer.

Maybe he was confused and thinking of a 1 channel.

I have a POW on a 2kw tumble dryer but i would be apprehensive to add one to a geyser?

To time it based on people actually being present and not burn power unnecessarily?

It would replace my Geyserwise functions happily for the purpose but then I would need a TH16 not a POW.

I’m more perplexed as to why one would want to control a tumble dryer but I would imagine that’s purely for monitoring.
 
Ok geysers are pretty well insulated, so you don't lose alot to keep it warm.

I have it on the POW just so it can tell me when it's done.
