Ah so they did add something but still not really useful for integration with other services.

The Shelly for example can also be flashed with custom firmware, but also supports a LAN api that allows local control from Home Assistant and other open source home automation options.

Anybody have a way of getting notified of a power outage at home when you're out/away?
 
Got my first parcel from Smartkit yesterday courtesy Black Friday and connected my first Sonoff basic switch to the lounge corner lamp. Synced it using my wife's (relatively ancient) iPhone 6 and sat and irritated everyone trying to watch TV while I switch the corner lamp on and off... and on and off... via the phone :-D
Then set up a timer and it went off nicely as expected. Super stoked and already the plans are evolving in my head...
FWIW, got the 3 fast flashing LED signal on the Sonoff switch which suggests to do the fast pairing. This did not work for me and eventually I had to use the AP Mode pairing.

Also been looking at the Shelly and like its compactness. Is Smartkit going to bring it into SA or anyone else perhaps?

A GSM Commander has battery backup and you can get it to send you an SMS/missed call when the mains goes down. Maybe a little costly just for this function, but it's also really useful for simultaneously monitoring/switching other stuff.

I would say, best would be to have dyndns set up for your internet, and have external monitor for it on ping. If its down, you know the internet is down, which could be the power, unless you have a UPS set up of some kind. In which case you can use the UPS status to see if the power is off.

Or as mentioned, armed response :P

They're excellent devices. Get a couple of PIR's and a RF Bridge and you can then switch stuff on detecting motion. That will really agitate the family.

Hmm. Good idea. If more than one sonoff goes offline at the same time, it's likely a power failure - eg, pool pump POW and patio lights basic... My HA server is on a UPS as is my wifi and wan infrastructure, so this could work.

Got a PIR downlight unit a while ago (non-smart) from the local hardware store. Installed it on a Saturday morning when home alone on our staircase and told nobody. My in-laws are staying with us for a while and don't switch on lights to "save electricity" (besides the whole house having 3 to 5watt LED's.) So it completely freaked out my mom-in-law the first time she went upstairs :-D "Who is switching on the lights?" Best is the follow-up as it has a timer so even switches off after a few seconds.
 
Sure. Then you can set up the inching function to control how long it stays on.

Edit: Just make sure that whatever you're switching is within the load capacity of the Sonoff.
 
Has anyone here installed the Sonoff T1 US/AU 3 Gang switch? I really like the look of it. Can it dim the lights?
The .co.za site says "Fits Old Box–seamlessly replaces your old US standard wall light switch".
Are there houses in SA that have "standard US wall light switches"? (Confused)

For me, they were slightly smaller than my electrical boxes.
They dont do dimming. But otherwise they great and i have outfitted the whole house.
Use them for lights and passing MQTT commands.

Maybe one of the guys here can help - @ipodmusicman - pretty please.

Our Qwikswitch wi-fi bridge is set up to schedule various devices. We got a new router yesterday so the bridge isn't connecting.

The assistance I received from head office was to download the installation manual :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:. I'm not sure the lady understood that it's currently connected to one router but needs to be changed to another. She gave a message to Dale asking him to call me and I'll post here with the solution if he phones back.

I can't get hold of the JHB rep who usually helps me :(

Apologies to Smartkit guys for asking in your thread but I know this is where you hang :confused:
