Only because I fiddled with a Sonoff in the middle did this problem start.

Perhaps the extra "narrowing" of the wiring?
If you have a clamp meter why don't you check what amperage the circuit is pulling when the geyser is heating up, if it is close to the 20A of the breaker that might be the problem? (Bypass the Sonoff then and test again.)

7 years is not that old, but for less than a R100 a new circuit breaker would at least rule out one item.

Oh no, I’ve completely removed the Sonoff.

Everything is back to how it was before....apart from it tripping of course.

Check all connections, maybe there is a bad connection that heats up and in doing so causes a some issue causing the breaker to trip.

OK so a while ago I posted about the ifan3, finally got around to installing a ceiling fan. It's one with a remote and control box, so fairly easy to swop it all out for a sonoff.

Everything works fine, except that the light get gets dimmer as you increase the fans speed. On the highest speed setting the light goes off.

Not sure if maybe connected it up wrong, but I doubt it and didn't feel like getting back up on the ladder yesterday. Or do you think the sonoff can't provide enough power for both the light and the fan?

It does sound like it's connected up wrong as the light power is supposed to be completely independent of the fan.

But of course I haven't installed mine yet to compare.

What kind of light is in there?

It's one of those 10w fluorescent bulbs, the fan is specced to take a 100w halogen iirc.

Yeah I don’t see that being a problem, but then they do seem to claim it’s for LED fans everywhere so maybe there is something in that considering the weird flicker I have with LED’s on the T4 switch.

There’s a reason they made it optional to wire the LED modulator in, maybe this is it.

I’ll try to get up and about early tomorrow and install mine, think there are two or three of those CFL bulbs in mine.

****sakes @rodga I also guessed wrong and I can turn the fan on/off and set the lights to three different stages of on now.

I was so hopeful NEVER to have to fight with this compact arrangement again!

Lol was just about to post now.
I stalled the other fan and everything is working as it should. I suspect the other one is installed correctly but the bulb may be needing too much power? I will try and source an led version. Although that may be a mission in itself.

The fan I just installed is a goldair with remote control and is currently on special for 999 at makro.

Ps. Sounds like you just need to swop the black and blue wires around.

Oddly enough with the 2 x CFL's in there and wired wrong when it's on 0 Fan Speed setting it isn't quite off and you see a faint glimmer in the evening now that wasn't visible during the day.

Good thing I kept the wall switch in place otherwise the wife would force me to go fix it tonight.

Are you saying in your case that the fan speed works for the fan but also for the light at the same time? That sounds like a crossed wire to me.

With the light on, the faster the fan speed, the dimmer the light. On the fastest speed the light goes completely off. Thats why I think it doesnt have enough power for the fan on full + whatever bulb is in there.

Its connected exactly the same as the other 2 fans, so I know the wiring is correct.
Also its a bitch to install a fan after the sun goes down lol

Hi Everyone, been following this thread the last few days - some great info and work being done!

Anyone played with QuinLED boards - https://quinled.info/

I got some of the QuinLED-OG boards a while back and running great except for the fact that I cant get a slider working in Home Assistant to control the dimming, going to be trying this evening to flash an ESP01 module with Tasmota as I believe this will work.

Besides the hassle of building this module from scratch, they seem to be rock solid with great dimming and fading (been using 5x around the house without issues or failure)

They don't have any buttons to control with a switch - so only app control but they are great for running LED strip lights.

Very strange.

Mine the light steps up as per the speed, but in my case I know now it’s just wrong way round.

I believe you on the light front, just going from working this morning to again this afternoon was kak enough, especially so with the limited space after putting the Sonoff in.

Locally available? Fully addressable?

You need to order in all the components and built it yourself – lots of soldering unfortunately! There is 1x version currently that is fully addressable (there are 4x versions in total currently)

QuinLED-OG
-2 Channel PWM Dimming
QuinLED-Quad
-4 channel PWM Dimming
QuinLED-Deca - (upto 50v LED and COB lights)
-10 channel PWM Dimming
QuinLED-Dig-Uno
-Addressable - (5v – 12v)

Im thinking of ordering in a batch of the Dig-Uno for some testing to see how they go.

Have you had a look at making your own controller using an esp8266 board?
You can even get away with using the cheap 5v USB charger boards for smaller LED runs.

Nope not my own - I stumped across the QuinLED design - all the hard work already done and tested so did not reinvent the wheel so to speak.
