Home Automation - Smartkit

Would a bigger magnet not solve any possible gap issue? I see RS-Components have various sizes and shapes available for use in reed switching situations.
A bigger magnet definitely does increase the gap fairly substantially. I have a neodymium on the crawler of my garage motor and it can bridge a fairly substantial gap without issues.

Looks like the difference may be in the gap distance that the different sensors can tolerate - I'm not sure that a standard reed switch as commonly used will handle a 40mm gap.

I got one at communica with a 60mm gap if I recall correctly, and in an aluminum case.

Integrated this with Home Assistant today using my existing Sonoff Bridge flashed with Tasmota. Cheap R150 doorbell at Builders (and they all use the same 433 Mhz transmitter). Takes a pic through my outdoor camera and send a push notification. And notify on the Google Home.

Any good website or youtube site you would recommend for sonoff automation.

Would also prefer using Google to run automation system.

Mostly use my phone, barely use computer.

I've been wondering how to do my door bell...didn't even think of this.

Now I need a bridge ASAP

Watch Drzzs videos, he's pretty in depth about what can be done.

What you using for the notification? Telegram?

For sure. I've also seen water and smoke detectors that are compatible, but I don't think there is much call for those here.

I’ve been thinking of adding some. Colleague of mine had has Wendy catch fire this week - it destroyed an aircon, shattered a window and smoldered the curtains. So while rare it can happen.

My house has terrible burglar bars - if my living room catches fire we’re all dead if noticed too late.

Home Assistant’s ios notifications. Pretty sweet - rate limited to 300 a day, can send through pics, live video and actions you can take.

I’ve also used Pushover in the past.

Any pros and cons (besides price ) of the Ring cameras.

Cons:
- expensive
- slow notifications - to such an extent that it is sometimes so much delayed that Ring regard it as a “past event” and you can’t view it with the free subscription
- subscription service

Not really sure about the pros - these stopped me from looking further.

I’m actively waiting for Wyze’s doorcam.

Not sure if anybody has seem this on Geewiz.

Smart plug for the house.

Can't get internal smart plugs like the Sonoff outdoor one. See below. Mine arrived and collecting tomorrow at post office.
