Can't get internal smart plugs like the Sonoff outdoor one. See below. Mine arrived and collecting tomorrow at post office.

Those are literally an extension cord cut in two with a Sonoff POW R2 in the middle. At R595 they're definitely taking a markup -- buy the POW 2 at Smartkit for R285 and a lead at builders for R80. Cut it in two, strip the wires, screw it open, connect the wires, screw it close and you're done.

Even better, add the R95 waterproof enclosure at SmartKit, put the sonoff in it with the glands and you have a slightly safer solution.

You can always use the sonoff basic to switch a contactor.
Not cheap but you can safely switch heavy loads (just select the correct rating).

Thanks, mtlost. Seems the best solution.

I have zero experience of contactors or even know what they are. Is it a relay switch of some sorts, where a low voltage/current opens/closes a higher rated switch?

Does the same as a relay (so sort of the same I guess) but unlike a relay that use 5V or 12V, contactors use anything from 24V up to 220V. You need to select the correct contactor with thte correct ratings, best to get a qualified sparky to assist you with an install.

Not a wall box but one that plugs into an existing socket?

I’ve been interested for ever purely to put bloody mosquito machines into.

Whoever makes it would need to use their brain and make it as narrow as possible so that you can still use the socket next to it....unlike about any adaptor I’ve found.

These don't need a hub and it's very slim. Doesn't take up any space of the socket next to it, so the socket next to it can be used normally.

Just be careful about quality. Ideally they should be type approved but generally CE should be sufficient to ensure they don't burn down your house. Fortunately they're removable and won't actually form part of the electrics of the house.
