yip, that Magnum are good, I've used it years ago, got an "bigger" model myself and no issues.
Thanks, just need to figure out the right temperature as well.
I had it at 360, I first had it lower but I felt I was holding it way too long on the pcb before getting any melting happening. Most likely more owing to bad technique though...
 
Probably the shittiest of soldering in the history, but I bought my first decent soldering iron and soldered a terminal block onto an SV.

Don’t know what you are complaining about, looks pretty damn decent to me.

Would have assumed it came from the factory like that.

Mine is infinitely kakker with a cheap **** iron. Back in the day when I had access to a Magnum and other tools it did make all the difference.

Terminal block is a good idea I never even considered though. I just hard wired it all.

I put the terminal block on as I may need my alarm company to come out and wire and programme the alarm outputs - depending on how far I get. Would rather they just connect via terminal than hard wire it.
 
Found the switchbot interesting. Must be honest, initially thought its silly. Just get a smart switch or smart plug.

But could be useful on certain appliances.

Hmm can switch on but how to switch off? Two per rocker switch? Unless of course a press button.

This will soon be redundant given IoT developments but great for old houses and appliances.

Geewiz actually has the switches and hub. Thought of getting some to play around with but just too expensive.

Interesting about the switchbot hub:

You could also use SwitchBot Hub Plus (the Hub Plus) infrared feature to mimic signals of your remotes of air conditioner, TV, fan, speaker, etc. for over 5,000 brands - and more on the way.

Just wondering how that works in practice and range of these BLE signals? My bluetooth headphones lose signal between bedroom and lounge, so ...

This can control aircons and TVs etc
 
Has anyone flashed an L1 light strip controller yet? Keen to see what it looks like in HA and lovelace

I've just one question, as I've seen different tutorials say different things - regarding pins:
Sonoff SV <-> FTDI (jumper set to 3.3V)
GND <-> GND
TX <-> RX
RX <-> RX
3V3 <-> VCC (is this correct? I see there's a 3V3 on the FTDI chip as well, that doesn't have any header pin on it)
Yes that is correct. Just be sure to press the button to put it into flashing mode before connecting up the GND or VCC pins.

Could I also have everything connected and then plug in the usb while holding down the button?
 
I successfully flashed 2 SV's, to Tasmota 8.2. Haven't configured them yet, but they're on my wifi and can toggle them on/off.

Had a couple of silly issues:
1. The USB cable I was using at first powered the FTDI, but it didn't show up in Arduino IDE. Dug another out and it worked fine.

2. The 12v power supply I've been using suddenly also gave in. Spend 20 minutes thinking I bricked the SV until I got my multimeter out and saw it was dead.

Other than that, pretty straight forward. Just need to document what I did, because I'll be googling it again in 2 weeks time.

i told you this stuff is easy bra, this week you flashing and soldering already. /sniff sniff they grow big so fast :cry:
