Yup, and then of course the issue of getting power to the unit in a way that doesn't interfere with things... last thing I would want is a battery operated lock that konks out while we're out

I'd prefer a battery - the more expensive ones like the Yale warn you well in advance, and obviously have a key override.

I've also seen first hand what happens if the power fails :p I have an electric lock going into my garage - and the db board is in the garage, so it was fun times when the power tripped and no one knew where the key was.

So over the last couple of weeks I've been hacking Sonoffs with Tasmota.

I've mod a basic to fit into an old day/night switch that was already at my outside gate but broke. It now allows Home Assistant to turn on and off the light at the gate.

Then I also realized this is very close to my sliding gate that I sometimes open accidentally, so I mod IO pin 14 with a industrial reed switch to check if the gate is open or closed.

Then I mod an SV to fit inside my gate motor so that I can trigger that from Home Assistant. So I can now open my sliding gate from my phone from wherever.

My luck ran out when I tried to do my other gate with an SV too - no wifi signal. :( Tried a wifi extender in my garage but no luck, the Tasmota-ESP combo doesn't seem to like that setup.

Tonight I will mod one of the remotes to trigger on the Sonoff SV!

Busy replacing a Sonof basic with a flashed one hat arrived 2 weeks ago. It struggles t give the WiFi for me to link but occasionally I get a WiFi. Can’t join it though ....

Any trick I missed earlier in the thread?

Not sure if your flashed one was done same as mine, but didn't they give you a ssid and password when sending you the flashed sonoff?

Bought a flasher one, thought password would be 1234 unless otherwise specified. But I don’t get as far as the password ...

From smartkit.co.za ?

I think they're defaulted to username and password both being 'smartkit'.

I think it's a few pages back - I'll check though

Yes one of the new pre-flashed ones. I will also browse back but bought I would just check if somebody knows what schoolboy error I’m making not to be able to join the network!

Will try again tonight, very few things works first time for me

smartkit/smartkit ;)

Appears to be this

If I understand it, that device is looking for an SSID called smartkit to log into. Set your phone up as a hotspot with those details and once it connects, you can change it to your standard WiFi details

A note on this: the SSID you're seeing ESP_xxxxx if the default SSID of any ESP8266 device upon starting. Should the device not be set to an AP you won't be able to connect. A Tasmota device will have an AP SSID of Sonoff-xxxx (you can turn this on by pressing the button 4 times quickly).

You should've receive instructions on the slip with your device. If not, or you've lost them, please see below:

To access your Tasmota device either:
• Create a WiFi hotspot on your smart device with the SSID "smartkit" and password "password" (no quotes); find the device IP; enter the IP in the smart device browser; change your WiFi settings
• Put the device in WiFi manager mode with 4 short presses - you should then see an SSID of Sonoff-xxxx; connect to Sonoff-xxxx; enter 192.168.4.1 in your browser; change your WiFi settings

smartkit/password (there were some concerns about the SSID and password being the same)

If you press the button 4 times quickly you will be able to connect to the Sonoff-xxxx SSID - this network has no password.

Hmmm think I'm gonna be "brave" and try get this multi switch thing working with some Sonoffs... just to keep the happiness in my household. The GPIO14 part is relatively straight forward... its the common "GND" that might be more tricky since the switch obviously has a common wire for all 3 switches.

Means I need to buy a Pi as well then...eish.. expensive payday...

Well over the weekend, I took the plunge and flashed all my basics OTA. One unit is a bit iffy, but will try again today sans whiskey.
I am busy reading up on flashing the 2 B1's and the 2 Slamphers with DNS spoofing. Has anyone tried it yet?

How'd you do the basics OTA?

The Slamphers were the easiest to do OTA.
