I'm trying to do something with my outside lights, maybe I'm asking too much. Would like to be able to power on/off lights using all three of the below:

1. Switch on the wall that will work even when wifi is down
2. Using a mobile app
3. Programming a spare button on my Sherlotronic remote that I use for the alarm and gate.

Any way something like this can be achieved?
 
Sounds like you need a sonoff t1 or similar. Touch switch with RF receiver - but not sure it will work with your remote.
 
That's the part that has me stumped yeah, trying to figure out how to get the current remote to work with the light.

Seems a bit silly to effectively want two remotes for the same thing not so?

You have the phone and failover in place so surely in time the remote would fall out of favour anyway.

I'd be careful trying to over-engineer things... I'm trying to keep my automation as simple as possible.
 
My next step is some persistent graphing of some of the data my iot stuff is gathering. Got to figure a way to pull data from Json messages in mqtt topics into rrd/mrtg...

1 and 2 definitely possible.
Get these instead of the regular Sonoff basic:

It says US type, but they are in the form factor most light switches are in SA, and will work with our 220v.
That said, I am still waiting for mine in the post, so not sure yet how easy/difficult it will be to get Tasmota firmware on.

For 3, depends on what type of remote your Sherlotronic is. If not rolling codes, get a sonoff gateway, if rolling, then hope it has some sort of relay that those spare buttons can use to trigger something else.

Please note that the Sonoff T1 AU/US will only be released by Sonoff on 18 April - and then it will still need to be shipped locally. Please feel free to pre-order here. We should have stock before the end of the month.

Note: you will need a neutral cable in your switch to power the WiFi (neutral in only). Most South Africa light switches do not have a neutral cable!
 
Nope... Don't feel like messing in the DB. There are smarter ways

I'm happy to start importing any products which will sell in the South African market.

My issue with something like this dimmer switch is that we would have to retail at minimum of R1500.00 per switch. This is a a far cry from the R135.00 (non-dimmable) Sonoff Basic - ITEAD have told us they intend to launch a dimmable this year, but it will require a neutral.

For those concerned about the neutral wire, we're receiving a shipment of the Sonoff T433 - not the right form (but it doesn't have to be where an existing light switch is). The T433 will work with the Sonoff WiFi bridge or Sonoff RF/Slampher/etc. devices.
 
Yeah like I said, not in the same league :) but Hella interesting and clever.
 
Out of interest, anyway to get the sonoff stuff working a lighting circuit thats 3-way?

So I use THIS switch with the T433 as a "physical switch" against the wall, and then also use THIS remote.

Is there a bridge of sorts I need to be able to connect this to my wifi to use a mobile app?

Call me daft but why wouldn’t most switches have a neutral?

Mine all have two wires presumably one live and one neutral?

How would it work otherwise?

Because the neutral runs straight back from the light fitting to the DB.
The two wires in your switch are the live feed from the DB and the switched feed from the switch to the bulb.

Neutral isn't needed in a normal switching application, so to save money, it's not pulled down the conduit to the switch.
