Ah ok. What would be nice would be a way to integrate these into the Sherlo and Centurion code hopping remotes most of us have.

Pulling into the driveway, open your gate with one button and turn on your yard floodlights with another button on the same remote.
 
This method or use the trigger on the centurion board or the pillar light functionality to turn on the lights when you open the gate. Some questions. Do you want the lights to stay on permanently or only for a fixed time.
 
Yeah my outside lights now get triggered by sunset/sunrise.
Inside lights get turned off when I arm the alarm.
Inside lights get turned on, if its between sunset-sunrise, if the alarm is disarmed.
 
Home Assistant has a nice Time Of Day binary sensor which makes it a breeze for such things.

YAML:

binary_sensor:
  - platform: tod
    name: Early Morning
    after: sunrise

Why would you make a special binary sensor for it?

It's already coded into everything so you just add the conditions.

I don't see any purpose to have my outside lights shining the whole night through.
It makes it more convenient/readable to have a simple on/off condition when the lights are already switched on, and in the circumstances of "Late Night", the lights are switched on for 15 minutes if the gates are opened.

Yah but that’s my point you’d code it to the lights directly.

Coding the lights to the binary sensor is basically double work.

I have tenants, (well basically my daughter and her family) staying in the back, so I need to ensure that if they leave during the night, by opening the side gate or arrive late opening the driveway gate, the lights switch on. This allows me to define the condition once, and use it for for all the circumstances.

But then if you want to make a change, you then need to apply to all lights? Instead of just editing the binary sensor which then affects all lights.
