The other side is that you have to be super picky about which devices you choose.
Sure HA might not be for everyone but its a lot simpler to setup a basic environment than you think.

Still won’t mean much, but will certainly help a lot.

HomeKit’s automations are so simple and lacking in features for instance that even if CHIP lets you interface with anything it still wouldn’t be the final solution.

I would imagine the others also lack the same granularity although likely less so than Apple.

If anything I expect CHIP to make Home Assistant even more attractive and easier to work with.

Yup, HA is getting close to version 1.xx where there is no fiddling in configs for anything. Its already super simple to just follow a basic setup procedure and its only going to get easier.
Where it shines over most other solutions is the amount of customization you can do.
 
For the first time in I think over a year since I’ve installed my Sonoff SV the magnetic switch for open/close status stopped working tonight.

Nice thing is it failed open and so my Node Red critical alerts did their job and notified every iPhone in the house.

Funny part is my wife just blindly presses the close gate button without when checking if it’s even open like three times before asking me what the hell is going on.

The culprit I suspect was my with either bumping it with the lawn mower or possibly although I don’t remember getting that close, cutting it with the weed eater.

I assumed the magnet probably just fell off finally having been glued onto a galvanises gate in the element for over a year, but not it’s sitting there happy as can be.

“Receiver” unit also stuck happily so I must have either cut the wire or just pulled it out knocking the box as it was quite a tight fit.

All in all pretty solid going and expected to have crap with it ages ago. Will find out tomorrow in daylight what’s potting after I screw it all open.
 
Random question on the SV, if you set of itching, what does it output voltage wise, the same as the input?

Thanks, my garage motor popped last week, looking at replacements - it seems the output on the new motor's board is 24v - but the trigger input is 12v.

What are you using as the magnetic switch?

So as expected I did actually weed eat the wire off....somehow.

Problem is after re-wiring it this morning it's still not working.

Is my logic sound that just bridging the two pins on GPIO14 should give the same result? That's literally all the magnet switch is doing right?

Because just doing that also does nothing which is very odd.

I'm a retard for not having done this in a while but also for not paying attention to wires I installed myself. I was connecting the two pins next to each other on GPIO14 (S&V) instead of S & G.

The sad part is...this isn't even the first time.

I want to install an extractor fan in my bathroom, and thought of using the Sonoff TH10 to automate the fan when there is access humidity in the bathroom. Is anyone using such a set up, or do you thing it will work properly? Any comments, advise will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

should be pretty easy to setup, you do also however get fans with this function already and alternatively fans with timer options etc.

Had the same idea but haven’t gotten round to it.

Don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

I am currently doing this yes.

Only difference is that I'm using a Xiaomi Aqara Temperature and Humidity sensor and a Sonoff Basic for the extractor fan.

I did find it slightly better to look for a sharp rise and fall in humidity rather than an absolute threshold humidity - argument is that during rainy days the general humidity is in any case higher and I don't want it to trigger then.
