Because at the time ti definitely seemed the direction that HA was moving in. I was struggling to get Seven Segment Display working and if moving to supervised no extra steps are needed.
I don't think supervisor was available as a docker container yet or it was not recommended. I'll relook at it.

How much memory are you dedicating to the VM?

For docker I need to give it little, well it takes very little:

I have 2 door window sensors and 1 pir 433mhz chuango brand. Want R100 each
 
Anyone out there done anything with monitoring their JoJo tanks water level? Looking for something ESP8266 based like Sonoff etc. with a recommended sensor to track the tank levels.

While I have yet to install it, I am planning on using an ultrasonic distance sensor along with an ESP8266 based board.

So I believe there are some challenges with this around the minimum distance the ultrasonic sensor can work with - something like 25cm? This is a problem for me as I would need to mount the sensor above the roof of the tank to achieve this.

Let me know how your setup goes!
 
I've also got to get round to doing my tank before summer.

Also thinking of using a "leak detector" instead - just so I know when its full - to stop pumping.

I spose that's one way of doing it. I've read that some guys have used submersible sensors that measure the pressure from applied by the water in the tank but my concern is silt build up messing with the sensor. :-/

Yea the accuracy is a potential issue, but I am happy with the accuracy. I am more interested in knowing how close it is to being empty as opposed to full.

Nest should work. But yep too expensive for function required.

Its others like the remo s bell thats bull. It only takes google voice commands with no streaming. Although it streams on Alexa devices.

I was thinking to just use a IP cam at the front gate with a button that sends a push notification over home assistant.

It may just be quicker to notify me than these fancy expensive doorbells, and I'll have local storage of the footage.

Voice is an issue unless the cam does 2 way audio

ah yes... maybe do a half arsed solution of still having the old intercom in the house - but at least when I'm not home I can see someone rang my doorbell and I can keep an eye? Kind of useful... kind of.
