Home Schooling - discuss

Ritalin FTL!!!

Discipline FTW!!! :p

I don't buy the whole Ritalin ADD/ADHD thingy.

Give the kid some loving but disciplined attention and he will be fine.

Ritalin = Prozac for kids.

Some of you might remember my thread about Ritalin and my friends kid.

I have decided if I ever have children I’ll never ever let a teacher come close to them with a ten foot pole!!
I’ll get tutors or something.

The school decided that kid should be on Ritalin. The doctor confirmed she (Divorced no allowance from hubby he has the other daughter.) said that she cannot afford these drugs.
The school and doctor promised her they will help her. Now three months down the line she like she said just cannot afford to give this child Ritalin. Both the doctor and the and head master just said well it’s her problem sorry. Now the kid has to go cold turkey.

You probably have guessed these are rather poor people. Or let me say it like this. She takes about R9000 a month home. She pays for everything. And the ex is in the same boat.

Now the other school phones she has to come and pick her daughter (the one who lives with daddy) daddy is not available on his phone.
When she asked the teacher what is wrong.
They were allowed to wear jeans and t shirts to school today.
The head master said jeans not ¾ jeans.
Trying to explain to this woman that it’s difficult to come and fetch the child the teacher just no. Come get the kid let her put on long jeans and then she is allowed to come back. She is forbidden to be on the school grounds with a ¾ jean.
Forbidden!!!
I heard the whole conversations!!
This is our school system?

I swear I’m the rudest loudest **** maker on earth I would have sued the school gone to the papers and made the biggest stink on earth.

My kids would have hated me……

But that’s why I would chose home schooling.
I have met teachers and think 98% of them should have been locked up in the stupid asylum never mind allowed close to kids.

Chose must be spelt choose - I hope you're not going to teach them spelling :D

Those kids need to PLAY! It's mostly little boys that are put on Ritalin because they can't sit still in class. They need some good old fashioned outdoor play. That'll burn up the extra energy.

Ja, agreed... prefereably with Dad in the picture as well.

I would REFUSE to give my kid Ritalin, its a Drug you hear DRUG, Would you give your kids cocaine?

The only reason i ever drink pills is cause i'm forced to, the only pills i like or even will try to drink are natural supplements...

Everyone, please witness the dangers of home schooling.

I was homeschooled.. :p
Well after Std 4 anyway. Personally I believe I'm better off for it. :p

I've never met anyone who was homeschooled and regrets it. ;)

Homeschooling teaches you stuff you will never learn in a regular school, such as self-motivation.
When homeschooled you don't waste time sitting in assembly halls listening to the droning headmaster talking nonsense. From the bit of regular schooling I had I can remember countless hours wasted on such rubbish.

I know that not everyone likes wikipedia.. but anyway:

Do you really want your brains to be batch-processed?

+1

That is soo True!!!

Ritalin is a drug yes. But not the solution. Neither is "loving discipline" nor play time. Most of these kids needs a diet change. If you go look at kids with add/adhd and you look on what's on their daily menu, you would see that they eat too many of the worng kinds of foods and too litlle fresh fruit and vegetables. It has been proven that a diet change also changes the child's behaviour to such an extent that you wouldn't recognise the child anymore (according to behaviour)

Maybe we should all agree to disagree. Some people are just meant for home-schooling, and others not. That's why we are all different

Life isn't perfect. Nor are we able to fix other peoples' lives to fit our own. If you could instate a dietary change in someone else's life to fix behavioural problems or if you could spend all available time to give a problem child the love and affection he/she needs to fix behavioural problems, then I salute you.

Fact is: There's a long way (difficult) to fix things (desirable) and there's a short way (easy) of fixing things (less desirable). But what if the long way is totally impractical? Where does all our argumentation leave us?

True - diet plays a huge part in the control of ADD. A BALANCED diet free from refined carbohydrates, low in preservatives and high in Omega 3 oils is the way to go. Totally changed my kids lives.

Funny you should think this way, because most teachers think that a majority of parents thesedays are totally unfit to raise children.

I agree....
So lets stop reproducing.......

I agree with the good old fashion playing... that was the teachers main problem with the kid, she liked running around and playing, the teacher say thats no way for a girl to behave....

Spelling i would leave to the hubby...:o

With the state of schools today it's perfectly reasonable for kids to be home schooled

thats why i said earlier its different for everyone, some people thrive in homeschooling others don't.

Home schooling is HARD, and requires ALLOT of discipline

ROFL home schooling FTL!

I would have hated it....
My mother would have killed me....
She didn't like me very much and i'm dyslexic so i would have irritated her even more...

Yes i'm no good at spelling and worse at math...
but if i had to choose i would never choose my mom or dad to home school me.
I would ask them to leave me in the same school from start to finish (I was in 8 different schools) but those two teaching me!!! Hell no!!

Yes you love your kid to bits, but they are going to go through times hating you…(normal teenage hating)
Imagine teaching that…
