but if i had to choose i would never choose my mom or dad to home school me.

If you are teaching your kid while doing homeschooling you're doing it wrong i think, cause i learn FAR faster by myself than having someone else teach me :)

I would like to see the average Joe learn Matric Mathematics by himself.
 
there are books on the subject, and teaching materials, i'll tell you end of next year, of course i ask my mom for help but she doesn't explain everything to me only when i ask her to.
 
So if you are homeschooling you're not teaching......:confused:

I'm confused. By homeschooling your kids all you do is hand them books and have them do it. I don't know.... I sucked at math but if no one ever explained to me i would have sucked even more...:confused:

How would a six year old learn to write if you don’t help him....

And i thought that was part of the whole homeschooling thing.. to spend more time with your kid..
 
trust me i do, me and my mom are much closer since i started homeschooling, i think it is worth it.

Some kids learn on their own others like guidance, and by being homeschooled and not having your mom/dad teach you doesn't mean they aren't around or at work, they are always there to help.

You need uber discipline to do home schooling though. Not a lot of that found in your average teenager

dude, you are a little full of it! personally my child will attend a school, he will participate in sports and he will be bullied, there will be structure, uniform and challenges. You seem to have it easy posting from your pc at 11:53am, sitting at home, surfing the net. I am in no way saying you are stupid or don't learn any less, I just feel you have taken the easy way out.

School provides structure, discipline and it helps a lot with dealing with people and the problems associated with it. There are also teachers for every subject, people who specialize in that subject. And before anyone bashes the teachers, there are still a lot of schools with very good old school teachers. I was shy and a "hermit", if it was not for school that sort of forced me to integrate, make friends, stand up for myself, I would probably be a loser today! :D

So different strokes for different folks, I don't believe home schooling is better.

Just for a minute see it from a normal teenagers view... I wasn't strapped to my mother’s skirt. I didn't want to be...
That was the last thing i wanted....

Just wondering if it doesn't create grownups dependent on their parents..
Living at home, deep in to their twenties....

Or maybe they are the kids leaving home and then never visits..?

I never took the easy way out, i have to be disciplined to keep up to date with my schooling, all that i feel is that kids spend HOURS on end doing things they can spend a few hours on at home, how many people still do sport after school?

I don't have kids, that said, being a responsible parent, I will not leave that decision to a teenager!!

Homeschooling through your "Grade 8 -12" (If I can call it that) years right? Totally different from the primary school you remember! What are the things you can do in a few hours that schools waste so much time on?

At my kids school it's compulsory for all kids to do at least one sport which takes up at least 3 afternoons a week. If they don't do a sport they get demerits. Only really good reasons exclude them from sport. AFAIK this applies to all private schools. I can't speak for public schools because my kids don't go there.

I was in Home-schooling from grades 5 to 11

Whats the need for so much homework?

So basically a kid is forced to do something they don't necessarily want to?

I was at a private school in which i didn't have to do sport.

I'm sorry but i absolutely think sport is overrated and overcompetitive.

Thats why all kids are fat....(almost all)
 
No i'm just thinking I also knew everything when i was 17.........
