Homemade Pizza

Just opened it. Manual just mentions gas gas gas... with a max temp of 350C

These things are OK for weber briquettes right?
350? Yikes, sounds like something I would rather use in an oven to make a 12 minute pizza
I guess you can try it in weber with briquettes, just do NOT add wood to make flames as temp skyrockets then

Has worked for me in the past. Wood, charcoal, and wood+charcoal.

And of course gas.

350° is still way hotter than your oven will go.

what is a joe?
Smokey Joe (mini weber)?

That's why I do not rely on just my analog temp meter on my lid
I point my infra red reader at the stone often as well to monitor its temperature

i bought the classic 10 years ago, nice 25y intl warranty - smoke that on the kamado jan rip off, if you're going to spend that kind of money - the big green egg is available locally (or at least in cape town)
Wait, I was under the impression that the Kamado Jan was just rebranded for the SA market. Is it actually a unlicensed copy of the Joe?

yep - cheap chinese rip off, check aliexpress and the likes, about a 1000% markup to boot iirc. they even tried to copy the website design
Thanks for this, I had no idea! I noticed the website looked the same as the Kamado Joe website - part of what made me assume it was rebranded for the SA market.

So where does one get a Kamado Joe in SA?

i updated that post, i lived abroad and bought it at the time. the best you can do in sa is the big green egg, which is a very good system and officially available from these guys. i buy a lot of their stuff to use on the joe, most important is natural lump charcoal, no firestarters/briquettes ever. the amount of shite in a briquette seeps into the ceramic and also ...your food

Thanks, I've been using Big Green Egg charcoal for a while now in my Weber and I'm aware of their products. I was pretty set on getting a Kamado Joe.

Wonder why he's using a pizza stone inside a pizza oven. The oven floor should suffice no, part of the appeal?
Not just a pizza stone but upside down tiles as well.

to spin the pizza around easier i think
But not that difficult with a peel either. Probably more hassles having to line up his pizza dough with the stone when placing it inside.

You're right. Guess he saw the mistake afterwards and thought **** it, I have a stone.
