Honda Brand

I just asked some of my colleagues most of them think Honda cars are expensive and Honda cars are mostly for older people. That part I don't get never knew the are cars for young and old folks. But that is what they told me.

Hondas are for old people  They are one of the most popular cars for ricers the world over :D

Your friends are Jermy Clarksoning too hard

The Honda Jazz is, without doubt, seen more than any other car if you go to retirement villages.

The best Honda is recent history is the Jazz. Specifically Gen 1 & Gen 2.

And "best" in the sense of consistently topping the charts for owners satisfaction & reliability surveys ie. JD Power.

I own a Jazz. Wouldn't describe it as an "old person car" but I can see why they'd favour it over others. It's reliable, very practical, economic, not too badly priced and will last forever. Not a boy racer though so if that's your thing you'll need to look at something else :p

After the Jazz I might actually consider the BR-V. Time will tell.

Speaking from the bike side, they got extremely expensive with their services, and their dealers aren't happy to make you a deal like others might be. At some point someone instilled in them this idea that they're a "premium brand".

From the car side... they just seem expensive. Civic sedans look the business, but then you find that the engine on the "sport" version is a 1.5L turbo in a car that size, and it's in the same price class as an MX-5. The *-V family of crossover/SUVs is nice as well, until you run into the problem of underpowered engines and overwrought pricing (barring perhaps the BR-V) again.

Hondas are famously beloved of the tuner community, but their approach seems to be that if you want it to go fast, you swap out for an actual engine. No doubt the units they're factory-fitting are bulletproof from a reliability point of view, but especially here in Gauteng, they just feel dead.

It comes back to my original point. They offer an extensive range from the overpriced (Civic Sedan) to the excellent value (BR-V).

Half a million rand for that? I would **** my pants at the new price I guess, but that's just stupid.

Mmmmaybe. The BR-V seems to be an outlier - its various models seem to be priced almost exactly in lockstep with the VW Polo, and for the price I'd rather have the crossover model, build quality and extra 2 years of warranty on the Honda. But when you're comparing to VW, who can effectively charge whatever they feel like in SA*, I feel you're not on the most solid ground when it comes to talking value for money.

And in the case of their very low end - the Brio - I'd actually rather take the Up!, even at the cost premium.

* (hypocrisy disclaimer: my 4-wheeler is a Scirocco :D)

I love my CR-V. It's not the biggest, it's not the fastest, it's not the strongest and it's not the best for off-road, but for the money it's insanely hard to beat. No other car on SA's roads that meet this criteria can be had for similar money. I spend months looking.

That is way to expensive. I love Honda, but that is just way to expensive. I wonder who their target market is with that price?

It is pricey but at the same time it's on it's way out..EOL.

Take into account the engineering & power & it's not that stupid all things considered. Plus you don't buy new you buy a very low mileage 1yr old CTR.

Target market? Honda fans (obviously) & a well off executive in the market for a hot hatch & wants something out of the ordinary i.e. 300bhp & still FWD; outlandish styling.

I'm a fan just putting it out there
