Now that I don't have free hosting with domaincheap I'm looking at alternatives at hosting. Local free/cheap or international free/cheap.

Recommendations?

Cybersmart has better free hosting than what Domaincheap had. It definitely sounds like the best option for you.
 
I've bought a domain with registerdomain.co.za and registered for hosting with Cybersmart

When I log into registerdomain.co.za and change nameservers to
1. ns2.cybersmart.co.za
2. ns1.cybersmart.co.za

I get an email from registerdomain.co.za that

Unfortunately the nameserver update failed:

Reason: Authoritative Nameserver failure for domain: xxx.co.za

The above indicates that your domain is not setup / configured correctly on the nameservers that you provided.

Please contact your hosting provider to assist with the setup / configuration of a valid DNS zone file for your domain on their server/s

What can I do?
 
Hey Bond,

Please contact cybersmart and ask them to provision the domain on their name servers or confirm that those name servers are correct.
Once confirmed or corrected then apply the same change to the domain to see if the name servers are accepted.

We do provide free DNS services to our clients, so if you still run into issues then take a look at the url within my signature.

If you want to host the domain at Cybersmart, please do domain transfer to us, so your domain will automatically takes our name servers. Otherwise, if you want to host the domain alone with us, please buy a hosting package and make our domains 'A' records to the provided cpanel account server.

EDIT : They may require that you transfer the domain to them for the free hosting and thus make a small amount to cover the hosting fees from your domain renewal.

Not quite sure on how their free hosting plans work. If they will not allow you to keep the domain at the current registrar then I suggest taking a look to see if your registrar has DNS servers which you can use and add your domain to those name servers, update your domain to point to their name servers.

On the Registrars name servers, create two A records to point to Cybersmart's web server IP.

Can you PM me your domain name and I'll try assist a little further.
