Hi

As per the topic, I put a sim into my phone, worked for a few seconds and died. How are they blocking the sims being used in phones etc?

Thx

Only today or it does it all the time?

Always, and they have made it clear the sim will only work in pre-defined devices

Ok, I tested it now, it indeed doesn't work in other devices, seems they recently implemented this as I was able to use service on a tablet before.

Also think so, wonder what the rationale is besides cell c not wanting to cannabolise their mobile data business

More details are needed.

- SIM: prepaid, contract,
- any special package (LTE only data, Fixed LTE)
- devices working and devices that do not work. Supplied by Cell C?

If by 'how' you mean technically it's quite easy as they get your device details when you connect (sim to network not internet connection). If you mean which devices then sorry can't really help.

The mystery deepens, or maybe is solved?

I put the sim in my Nokia 7 plus - and instead of showing "4G" or "4G+" as it normally does, it shows "LTE" and its working like a baby. How, why? What is the difference between 4G and 4G+ versus LTE?

Edit your build.prop on nokia7 to display 4g and test again

I suspect it may get this from the network. A friend and I have the same phone (Nokia 8). His says LTE on Vodacom, mine says 4G on Telkom. Though admittedly we haven't tried switching SIM cards to see if that would change anything.
