How bad is Sinotec actually?

My 32" Sinotec LCD TV has been used as a pc monitor since mid 2008. Only now is it starting to screen burn when I play games with static buttons (RPG's with minimaps etc.) However, running it at 1024x768. It's been working perfectly for my xbox 360 and PS3, but recently the HDMI input stuffed out as well.

So yeah - loved it for what I paid 3 years ago...if I had to buy now I'd look into LG or so.

Also, when I bought it I noticed 2 dead pixels on it when I got home. When I took it back a week later Game swapped it out for me the same day I returned it, with no questions asked.

I have both a Panasonic Plasma and Sinotec hd lcd, both 42 inch and more than 3 years old. Non HD channels look better on the Panasonic, HD channels look awesome on sinotec. The same sh*t from DSTV anyway, so why spend more on a stupid tv?

Why buy a BMW when you can buy a Cherry which will take you from A to B? Why buy a smartphone when your Nokia 3310 can make calls?

Because some people care about quality and don't want to settle for 2nd best. Or third best, or one of the worst in case of Sinotech. Sure it fulfills its purpose and if that's all you care about buy a Sinotech, buy a Cherry and treat yourself with McDonalds on your birthday :D

I had a Sinotec for one day. Returned it the next day and bought an LG. Picture quality was rubbish.

Don't have DSTV and not going to be getting it. TVs are not only for watching TV (actually watch close to zero TV nowadays).

Ive got a 47" Sino for almost 2 years now and no issues thus far.If i had to choose now for a tv i'd definitely go with a Sammy 50' plasma.
Since i spent most of my time watching standard tv, the 1080P aspect of it was never really of any benefit apart from the occcasional blu ray disk.
My advise,go for 51' plasma hd ready now and then upgrade to a 3d LED when the prices come down.
On dstv,Images on my 42" HD ready plasma looks a lot sharper than on my full HD Sino 47'.

so you are saying that when i buy a BMW, i should rather just get the 320i, rather than the M3 ? they are made in the same factory so they must be the same! My dads going to be well p!ssed when he finds out his 330i has the same engine as the 320i...

Yea because we all know tv's and cars are exactly the same

I have a Sinotech and a Bravia. Honestly I cant tell the difference.
I would say go for the Sinotech.
I don't know about who makes what ect. but I have found when people get personal about something (read angry) I don't trust their opinions any more. Go and see for yourself. Go to Makro and ask them to put the Sony next to the Sinotech, they will do it with pleasure if you're there to buy (or they think you are) and decide for yourself which is better.

The guys with Sinotec hate. Go try changing the settings on the Sinotec and then compare. Contrast/brightness/backlight/sharpness/fitness etc. You will be surprised.

Also use proper source like a blu-ray through HDMI when comparing.

we tried every setting, with a Bluray player and an Xbox ;)

and as i said, those who think sinotech is the same quality... as i said my mom is old and struggles to tell the difference, maybe you need decent eyes ? I just see a bunch of Sinotech fanboi's that are struggling to deal with their decision ;) My dad bought a sinotech at one stage... if it's the only tv in your house you will think its the best quality ever, then you get something decent next ot it and your mind is blown! :) What's an extra 1k on a screen anyway ?

I can't put up with these Sinotec fanbois in this thread any longer. Clearly they have bad eyes or are just trolling to make themselves feel better about their own purchases.

My final advice:
If you can find a 40" 100Hz sony/samsung/lg for under 6k buy that.
Otherwise get the LA40D550, its a great TV with great quality picture.
If size is that important to you that you would rather get a bigger but worse quality TV then get the Samsung PS51D450 for 7k. Its 51" inch, has a very good picture quality and outstanding value for money. Note its not FHD and its a little reflective. Very good TV nonetheless. Some people (you know who you are) argue this has a better picture than the FHD LAXXD550
Lastly, if you have a bit more to spend and can't live without the FHD just get the LA46D550 or the Sony EX46????
But whatever you do, don't get a Sinotec.

Thanks for the great advice Tim, I appreciate it.
Have there been 100Hz for that price? The LA40D550 is normally R6499 so I'm thinking that R4999 is an outstanding deal for it.

Definitely not a bad price. I can't recall any 100Hz for that price but you never know. I'd wait to see what specials Hifi bring out on Thursday and then decide.

sinotecs are awesome! I have the 47" and it rocks, brilliant for the xbox, best purchase ever!!

Wow, HiFi are selling the 32D550 for R4599. That or spend R400 to get 40". Madness :)
Maybe we'll have a look at that LG as media player not really important - too much fiddling.
Game offers the 'beat any price' thing by 5% so going to try Game and tell them about the Makro special. Should get it there for R4750 or so.

sigh...its lose not loose

LG any day over Samsung!
Sinotec 47" great TV, I find it a tad big though, prefer 40".

Thanks for the correction. While we're at it here are your mistakes:

- "sigh" with a capital "S"
- It should spell "It's" not "its" and you also forgot to use a capital I
- You're missing the fullstop after loose
- You are missing the verb and the article in "Sinotec 47" great TV". It should read "Sinotec 47" is a bad TV"
- You are missing the pronoun in "prefer 40" ". It should read "I prefer 40" "

If you really feel that it is necessary to correct someone else's spelling on a forum at least use proper grammar and spelling yourself.

Back to topic; please explain why is LG superior, what makes Sinotech so great and why is 47" too large?

I often fix people's junk:

SINOTEC is utter crap... I don't work on them anymore. Cheap Chinese sweatshop output!
Certain SAMSUNG models have technical problems, related to picture loss and audio loss and I can't do anything, except replace the mainboard and usually that sorts the problem out for a while...
Samsung SA cannot solve the problem!

Rather buy LG or SONY!
