How can we improve MyBroadband?

Please share your views on how we can improve MyBroadband.
 
stop writing articles saying openweb is good.
the notion that that ISP is any good has cost this website more reputation than clickbait and propoganda.

at least once a week there is someone complaining about openweb that only went there because of a MyBB article.
 
  1. Please cut down on the "UCT is the best varsity" every other week. We get it.
  2. Please pull the plug on myBuzzfeedTech. Or at least don't let BusinessTech post to the MyBB forums. Let it be it's own thing somewhere else.
  3. Give upvotes/downvotes a trial run in the forums. For posts and/or threads.
 
Links to sites mentioned in the articles.

Try to have less walls of text. Many articles could be easily broken down into numbered points or info put into tables, but instead the information is buried in paragraphs of useless fluff.

Also get more moneyweb articles up. They are far and away the best researched articles on the site.
 
Ditch Openweb in all shapes and forms from the site...

Stop the clickbait BS, and actually put some decent articles up...

As someone who's regularly on these forums I'm not sure how you've remained oblivious to the issues.

We'd like proper journalism & opinion: The bulk of posts are re-posts from other news sources. MYBB has the advantage of having this huge readership base but absolutely squanders it in favor of re-posts and nonsense to generate ad-revenue. I don't think anyone really doubts the whole point of this endeavor is to make money from ad-revenue.

On the rare occasion that mybb actually writes an interesting article (like the banana flash drive, though kinda sad that it's the best / most memorable thing) people really enjoy it. I'd much rather see mybb post less re-posts and more of it's own opinion, it's own humor, it's own journalism. Basically - it's own personality.

There were a few local tech stories recently (education games, the free calls using some protocol etc) and instead of calling those people and conducting an interview and possibly providing a way for interested mybb members to support them - mybb just posted some rehashed drivel.

The amount of adverts on the pages are a joke.

The clickbait headlines are a joke.

Definitely the Openweb thing - those okes are not OK and MyBB's continued advertising of their services implies tacit support, perhaps even complicity.

That's harming your brand.

The quality of the articles you publish has increased, it's clear that effort/budget is being out toward this. Maybe double down because there is still room for improvement and this creates credibility which is what I assume draws eyeballs and thus advertisers.

Please consider showcasing local startups. SA has a very lackadaisical attitude toward what ought to be a key driver of our economy.

I think all the important points have been covered above. The journalism has become so poor on myBB that the only reason I visit the website is for the forum. I can't recall when last I read/clicked on an article on the main website.

I also believe that something needs to be done for the top contributors on the forum. They really are the heart and soul of myBB - some reward/recognition is deserved.

This. I made the recommendation a while ago as well, and after 2 or 3 articles it went away.
 
now the R million dollar question,

will any of these suggestions actually get implemented?

I mean in the rough and tumble world of forums, surely click-bait articles are more important.
I mean how is mybb even funded?

99% by Openweb, 1% by ads.

Please get someone to proof read articles that can spell properly, before it gets posted online. Just because some one else made a spelling mistake, is no excuse to propogate it, even if the article did not originate with MyBroadband. Thankfully grammatical issues have been fewer.

You have numerous competions in which banners need to be "clicked" on to read the advertising. Problem is, these banners do not show in any form on the mobile version of the site - not even at text link, should we be interested in looking - which is how I, and many others normally access your resource.

Fewer - advertisement or promotional articles - that can be misconstrued as being supported by the MyBroadband community. Straight up and honest advertisement is fine, "disguising" it as an article however is not. It detracts from the value of the community.

Higher quality articles

Ger a person with a journalistic qualification to proofread articles and also approve content

Get rid of experts like Basie. They dumb you down.
