How can we improve MyBroadband?

Oh, admit that Multichoice owns you, or stop posting articles in their favour. They are not as good as you make them out to be.
 
ok so I posted my gut feel, and that was openweb is bad and they should feel bad.

but then I went back and thought about it. when last did we see a post about openweb? I honestly cant remember because there are so many threads about them being terrible.
its been more than a month at least hasnt it?
who can remember the last "article" about openweb on the site?

You have numerous competions in which banners need to be "clicked" on to read the advertising. Problem is, these banners do not show in any form on the mobile version of the site - not even at text link, should we be interested in looking - which is how I, and many others normally access your resource.

Fewer - advertisement or promotional articles - that can be misconstrued as being supported by the MyBroadband community. Straight up and honest advertisement is fine, "disguising" it as an article however is not. It detracts from the value of the community.

oh... and some kind of free annual conference.. with lots of goodies and eats and eye candy.... and an open bar for the regulars.

There is a difference between the two types of comments. Forum comments are only visible to forum members ..... And that is the way I think it should be.

Good point. I wonder what the correlation is between the users complaining and such ads disappearing?

I suspect there is a link there, when you think about it: it doesn't serve MyBB to alienate the user base, but if you're expecting them to publicly disavow a given entity then sorry - that's not how business works.

Silently pulling the offending ads and discontinuing the relationship behind the scenes is perfectly acceptable, and a good outcome.

Remove your blatant bias for and against certain players in the ISP market.

This is myBroadBand, not YourFavourites/YourSponsors/YourAdvertisers

That is not true.

I prefer all comments in one place. Why must I go and look in two different places for comments?

Original content and stories and not just reports on reports. Maybe give more visibility to important tech stories and less priority to the fluff pieces.

This is interesting. I went to the main site, and the last OpenWeb article seemingly was this: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/adsl/162216-openweb-has-a-great-network-but-terrible-service.html

Heading reads:

I see that was posted on 2016-05-03.

Before that, the last OpenWeb article was on 2015-12-10. It was obviously a paid article - but it seems that it was the last.

So I'm thinking they ditched OpenWeb, or vice versa, and we just didn't notice yet. The last article is very much indicative that they don't get paid to put OpenWeb in a good light any more.

Obviously they don't have any obligation to tell us such info.

obviously not.
but as someone else also pointed out, they cant really tell us can they? it would kind of make it so that they cannot do articles like that for anyone else again as it will ruin the reputation with other clients.

It makes perfect sense.

The article comments are for those that just come to MyBB to read articles. We can call them "casuals" users.

The forum comments are for those actually part of the community. We can call them "core" users.
 
Some IT focused DIY articles could be fun (original, not copy paste).

Example 1:
Maybe go buy a Raspberry or 6, build them each a custom cover, test them with different peripherals, different os's, applications, environments etc.
Make a few original or less well known devices out of them. Basically instructions as well as final conclusions (you could compare all the Kodi versions out there as an example or make a little server array or whatever).

Then once done (eventually) give them away if you can't use them.

Example 2:
Test similar themed applications and compare, use different os's, brands etc and try to achieve a similar goal.


Example 3:
Build and burn in test some of the hardware you report on.

Example 4:
Build a home network uing wired and wireless technology.

Example 5:
Put in a cctv system.

and so on...

The above need not just be articles, you could turn them into a wiki...
