How can we stop crime

We need more cops. Everywhere.

Whatever - when I was attacked in broad daylight, there were metro cops parked literally two cars away from where I was. There were police cars parked just round the corner, and there were police driving past on the other side too. Everybody, but everybody stood back and got out the way as if it was routine when they attacked me --- these guys OWN the streets, they are not afraid of cops. Then I had investigating officers who didn't take the attack seriously. Other incidents: I have colleagues in SAPS who have been mugged while in their police uniform. I have friends who have been literally robbed by the police. I have personally been subjected, as well as friends, to overt racial abuse and threatening behaviour by the SAPS. I've witnessed incidents of police refusing to help victims of crime. I've personally witnessed metro police soliciting bribes in illegal stops. I think I have had more negative interactions than good ones with the police. Yeah there's some good somewhere in there too but anyone who thinks the solution is "more cops, everywhere" is deluding themselves. And any call for a solution that involves the government doing something is a non-starter anyway - who the HELL do you think is going to implement this "more cops, everywhere" idea of yours - the same friggin government that has been complicit in allowing criminality and anarchy to flourish in the first place?

I'm all for suggestions, but PLEASE, let's get real, let's grow up and come up with some real suggestions that are actually practical for human beings in the difficult situation we are in. We all know already what we "need". I'm so sick of these useless pretentious little faux outcries of outrage on a forum about what "should" happen. Like this, and like stupid useless "1000000 against crime" Facebook groups - WTF people, does anyone really think joining a FB group is giong to help - these are little more than personal ego displays of how deeply one supposedly grasps the concepts of civilizational-driven solutions. It's worse than doing nothing because you think you've done something. We all know what solutions "should" be implemented, but we all know these are not going to be, so let's get straight on with the dirty business of the only other real solutions available, those that fall outside the corrupt legal justice system.

Some of our police needs an improvent programme,
ie get rid of the laziness, poor attitude and poor training.
The good cops should get pay increases now, say 200%.

just few of these might do the trick

Was coming off corlett drive yesterday on my way home from work..
woman in front of me got smash n grabbed, and as the guy turned the corner (onto the highway) there were metro there who saw the whole thing..
they jumped out their car, tackled him, and one of them gladly kicked the motherf($*@r in the face.
It was so lovely to see, I smiled all the way home.

For a change the cops did something!!!! We need more police that are in view so this doesn't happen.

Drastic situations need drastic action. The Government needs to amend the constitution, bring back the death sentence etc etc. I do not think they have the political will at present to take drastic action. I have no doubt that if the Government had a real will and joined forces with big business they would make massive inroads on crime. There have been a number of great initiatives but the just seem to fizzle out. It is not too late to start to seriously combat crime. If people know they have a good chance of being caught and punished there would be less people willing to do the crime. The problem is they see others getting away with it so it is more attractive and it creates a culture of crime and the acceptance of crime.

sort out crime, sort out our police force and the only way to do this is pay them well

the police are here to protect us but they also families to feed and things to pay every month

pay them more and im almost 100% sure we will a dent in crime figure

Bringing back the death sentence means death for ANC. Oh boy i pray for that everyday ...

Get tinted windows.
Drive a normal car that doesn't have "hijack me" written all over it.
Change your routine (they watch you!)
Get security... like bars and ADT etc.

And, just hope for better luck ;)

Sorry but this sounds like belt tightening adice.

Yeah - take precautions.

But if we all switched to normal cars, then normal cars are what would be hijacked. If you are only getting R5000 for a hijacked car it's volume business, not quality.
