How did you STOP smoking?

I went cold turkey. It was more of a mind shift than anything else.

The craving only lasts 60 seconds. distract yourself for those 60 seconds every time you have a craving and soon the craving will become a thing of the past.

I've stopped smoking just over 1.5 years. I don't miss, I don't think about it, I cant remember smoking.

Today is day 59,
Went cold turkey.. smoked a cuban cigar as my last smoke:D. Lungs feel awesome now and i can run up stairs without being out of breath.

Haha! A Cuban as your last smoke would probably make anyone never want to smoke again!

So Day 1 has been ok... Can't say it was THAT bad if i'm being honest here. Now that i'm at home though (and used to smoke inside) the want for a cig is popping up A LOT more than it was during the day. Just habit i guess. I immediately block the thought and distract myself with something. As long as it doesn't get much worse than it has been so far... I can DEFINITELY do this :)

Hey Guys n Gals,

So since creating this post, I have (very slowly) been reading the Allen Carr book and finished it today... Tonight will be my last cig! As of tomorrow I will be able to call myself a "Non Smoker". Keeping positive and only thinking of the bright future without it!

PS: Mike, how you keeping up there brutha? Month and a half now...
Congrats dude.

It's been going well. Honestly after the first few days of not smoking, your body's physical dependence on nicotine should no longer be there. Then it's just a matter of getting your habits under control (those smokes after food and sex etc.). You shouldn't even be craving it - any craving that you think you have, is actually a craving for the habit more than the nicotine.

All Champix does, is make those first few days easier to bear. After that it's plain sailing. I tried cold turkey before but got very agitated after a day or so of not smoking, and just started again...

Glad to hear you still going strong man. I'm on day4 now. Found that i get annoyed at stuff a lot quicker, but other than that, it's been ok!

So today (or tonight to be exact) will be a week since my last cig :) Feeling fantastic! Still getting the urges to have a smoke now and then but it gets better and easier each day. Feeling very proud of myself that i got this far! It really hasn't been THAT difficult!

The habit is the worst. I couldn't take wasting half an hour at a time so I stopped.

I'm on day 8 with Champix. Gone down from 4 cigarettes by this time of day to 2. I don't feel like smoking (tastes bad) but I just wanna eat everything

Cold turkey, since October last year. Almost a year and only this month did the cravings stop. But it's different for everyone. My advice would be to have cholesterol and insulin levels checked a couple months after quitting, especially long time smokers.

Well done! Are you doing any type of detox to help you out?

Why would anybody want to quit smoking?

/lights up his pipe

So I gave up 3 years ago. Although I still crave (especially after 1 or 2 draughts :D) it was actually pretty easy. Like a lot of people have said, it was a mind shift. I woke up one day and thought to myself, if I ever got some smoking related disease and I then had to tell my son (who was 1 at the time) that I was going to die, all because I smoked. I don't know how I would handle it. How could I ever expect him to listen to him or his mother about anything around his life when I was putting my life at risk by smoking. The thought of disappointing him just killed me!

I don't know, it was just a personal realisation that affected me and made me want to quit. All other times I tried quitting, I didn't really want to quit. I just knew it was bad for me, but loved it so much so I would always just fail. With this realisation I wanted to quit and did exactly that.

I can relate to that... My story is different but also along the lines of "What happens when you get told you are dying because of smoking". Rather stop NOW before that day has a chance to come

Hang in there. You're over the worst already. Try and cut down on the chow before it gets out of your control.

Day 10 of Champix. Had my last cigarette last night. Not gonna buy another packet
