How do I get Vodacom 3G?

Gave Vodashop in Menlyn a call now, they also claim they can't do the Voda4u contract, but at least could give me a number for the voda4u store in Menlyn (012-3480075), except that that number is engaged.

The Voda4U shop is also in Menlyn Mall, in fact the 2 shops are almost next to each other [same path]. When i was looking for a datacard i walked into both and i definitely got the impression the 2 shops are pretty much independent [as in doesn't share stock/resource/brains..] .

..but if you got your card you might as well walk past a PEP or GAME and pick a prepaid MTN sim -anyway- . Always useful if internet doesn't work and you are not sure if it's network related etc etc. Sounds like alot of trouble to get a 4U contract [ i bet there's alot of paperwork involved too] , so might get an early 'test-run' using MTN sim?

Ja, my 4U contract is still not activated yet. I didn't know (and the dude at Cellucity obviously too) that there is no "number portability" between service providers yet. So the prepaid number from Autopage I gave to be converted to contract couldn't be converted. :(

I gave them another number around lunchtime todady to be converted but it seems things happen slowly in these cases. Should've just spent the R100 and bought a new sim outright yesterday :(

Same amount of paperwork as a normal contract, since you are debited in arrears. ie you can run up a bill & disappear, they have 2 verify bank details, etc.

Vodacare's cannot sign up contracts unless they are alsoVodashops/approved dealers. ANY approved dealer can signa 4u contract... they don't benefit much from it though. (May explain the reluctance)

Sounds Like a mission why not just go to Vodaworld.

Yeah, you're probably right. I thought it would be quicker this way, but obviously not...

Ok, finally had time to go to Vodaworld late this afternoon and managed to get everything sorted. Just waiting for the 4U contract/SIM to be "activated", which apparently should be sometime tomorrow morning.

Thanks for your assistance everyone, I do hope this works as it turned out to be quite a mission.

Before you go a massive manhunt make sure you HAVE 3G COVERAGE! and if you dont then i suggest you start praying.

As noted in my previous post, the mission is kind of over (unless the activation never happens. And I just realised I have absolutely nothing made of real wood in my office.)

Thanks for the suggestion anyhow, but the coverage-check was kind of the first thing I did.

I also managed to test the datacard last night using my MTN SIM and found it to be quite good and Vodacom should (if my research is right) be even quicker.

The 4U sim should be activated by now, but I can't test it because my girlfriend has already hijacked it for the day

Sounds like I might have to go through the whole lot again soon.
