How do I set up my spreadsheet to look up values in a table stored in a database? Assuming that the database file is stored in a fixed position?
 
Have you tried using Get External Data?
Pull the information into a sheet using Get External Data and then use your lookups to reference that sheet.

OK, so there is no way to do it live with a table that is constantly updated?

I have to import my entire customer list or product database when I want to lookup that data using my General Ledger spreadsheet?

When you've got the external query set up in your spreadsheet, you can right click on it and see the "refresh" options.
 
You could also set the Connection Properties of the data source to refresh automatically at a preset interval.
