I got glasses a week or so ago and I love the difference that they make .... but I do find that keeping the lenses clean is a bit of a drama. They came with a little cloth in the casing .... but you have to really rub for a while to get them clean. I have noticed that it tends to smudge the lenses and make them dull. I then fog them with my breath and then rub and this helps.

What I really thought of doing is washing them with water and soap like I used to wash my dads glasses for him when I was a child. I am worried though that this might damage my frames? If I do wash with water and soap, what should I use to dry the lenses? I used toilet paper when cleaning my dad's with water and soap.... but I was told not to do this as it could scratch my lenses?

What do you guys do?

Have this spray that I mixed. Methalyted spirits + Water. Helps in keeping them clean and gets rid of smudges.

^ that ?

I have always use a small dab of sunlight and spreading it on both side and then washing with water, and then any fast food joints napkins I might have to dry with.

If mine get really dirty then I run them under some hot water and use some toilet paper to dry the lenses.

In the normal course of events I've found that toilet paper works best for cleaning the lenses.

For day to day wipes, i use a soft tissue (gets rid of everything with a gentle wipe). Then I normally give the glasses a good clean once a week with some meths and a microfiber cloth.

I use baby tears.

...if that's in short supply I use hot water and sunlight liquid.

I fixed mine about 10 years ago but getting my eyeballs nuked with a laser.
Haven't had to clean the specs since then ;)

Soap and water once a day when you shave. Just use a tissue to dry. Done this for years.

Get a proper lens cloth, and clean it often with sunlight liquid. The smudging you get is from either a dirty cloth, or an inadequate cloth. The best cloths I have is one I got with an Adidas frame, and another one I got with my Hoya lenses. The coating on your lenses also make a huge difference to how easily they clean. If it is a factor to you, always go for the most expensive coating. I suggest Hoya coating, with Hoya lenses. Essilor is also good, but it tends to crack (the coating).

Oh, you could also try smitty's glass wax from dischem. The yellow cloth works well if kept clean. Use the black one with the wax.

I have had glasses for the last 18 years. In the morning I hold them under the hot tap for a couple of seconds and then I dry them off with a towel.

That's it.

I got Guess frames. You would think the cloth they supply with it would be of fantastic quality. I am not sure what you mean by coating? I just know that the optometrist said she is gonna do lenses for me with anti glare (I have a aversion to bright light ... cant stand it ... and she said I have rather large pupils as opposed to other people and that is why I dont like bright light). I think the anti glare helps more with bright lights at night ... when I drive during the day I just use my shades. Is this the coating you talking about?

^This, also I use a small sponge to clean with (gets into the nooks & crannies) and rinse with clean water before polishing dry.

edit: BTW tissue = toilet paper :)

The quality doesn`t matter, all those lappies become miff eventually.

For day to day cleaning, use a clean microfibre cloth.

For stubborn stains use those Zeiss lens wipes your optometrist sells or a wet face cloth. Dry with the microfibre cloth.
