How do you clean your spectacles?

This stuff is awesome, just use a little drop on each lens. For regular maintenance I just use the cloth on its own (its that good).

Yea I put some on my glasses last night.

First tried right lens of my very old pair that has been sat on, stood on, dropped off a roof, kicked around and many other terrible things.
Less glare and clearer than the left lens.

Put some on both my current pairs after that and seems not bad, as @p924 said though, both my new pairs, it does not actually stick to the lens (like cold water on oil, just made droplets and went to the sides of the lens).
Also, unlike the cleaning stuff I got from specsavers (picture to follow) my lenses are now collecting dust.

I am also worried about it building up around the frame and other hard to reach places, have you experienced that?

And the other thing, I found that by doing my daily cleaning under running water with sunlight I get much less gunk build up on the frame and pads than just cleaning the lenses.

I also tried some on my S4 screen for the fun of it and that is now super slippery and also looks very clean :)

Handy stuff for sure just don't know if it will be very helpful for my glasses.

Could anyone explain:

Im new to my glasses. Only 8 months now.
My optometrist insisted that I use lenses manufactured by HOYA. I was inclined to Crizal. He said HOYA is much cheaper and it does the same job. Quite right it does do the same job.
Does it make a difference on the manufacturer of the lenses? Mine do smudge very easily and I have got a bit of OCD so regular cleaning and wiping and a huge amount of scratches on the lenses. Crizal claim less smudging. Is it true?

Don't get plastic lenses next time. Go glass.

Crizal is crap compared to hoya, and Crizal is also a lot cheaper in my experience. Do you have the hoya HVLL coating? It cleans a lot easier, but lenses will always smudge easily.

My experience with Crizal is that the coating cracks easily and for no reason, but if you forget them in your car in the sun, they WILL crack and you will have glare everywhere you look. I had to replace mine 3 times, the first set came cracked from the shop. I never had a similar experience with Hoya, and they also seem to last longer.

Apart from that, there is not much difference in standard lenses, unless you get something like Hoya lifestyle ID+, which is quite expensive, but could be worth it if your prescription is quite strong. Essilor does not have a competitive product AFAIK.

What's HVLL?
I have got transition and anti glare.

Secondly I forgot mine in the car in the sun. Started to crack as well. One optometrist told me any glasses left in the sun will eventually crack.

HVLL is a hard anti-glare coating with oleophobic agent, so it cleans easier. But it is more expensive than the standard coating.

Strange, my old hoya glasses retired in my car and they are still perfect.

ZEISS Lens cleaning wipes

Been wearing glasses for almost 30 years.

One day someone gave me a ZEISS Lens cleaning wipe.... To me, it was like being able to see clearly for the first time again.

I always keep some in my car, laptop bag and study. It's super handy and also great for cleaning your optical sights on fire arms as well as smartphone screens and so on..

They are available at most optometrists at about R25 for 50 wipes.

Get some of that smitty's glasswax stuff then, seems to make wiping easier.
Saying that from my S4 screen, not my glasses.

I NEVER touch my lenses unless they have been rinsed under running water first. Not even with microfibre cloths.
You get a grain of dust on the lens, makes that first fine almost invisible scratch, next time you wipe and another grain of dust is close by it uses that scratch like a track and makes it deeper. You also end up with grit and dust sticking to the microfibre cloth and next time you wipe you scratch the lens with the dust on the cloth.

for me if I use my t shirt or any fabric other than the little cloth that comes with the glasses it doesnt clean it for ****; just causes smudges.

OP now has some well worn in skants available for those who prefer to clean their glasses with cloth. PM Ockie.

Go to the optician and get his advice. It depends on the type of lens you have and the coating that has been applied if any.

Those fancy cloths are not always a good idea, they can scratch some lenses quite badly. Toilet paper is not a good idea, neither is serviettes, sleeves dish cloths etc but it depends on the type of lenses you have.

Been struggling to clean my glasses, have used microfiber cloths, toilet paper (which has left scratches on the lenses, though they are fine) today I used soap, water and dapped it with the paper you use to dry your hands.
Actually worked nicely

I use the el cheapo readers from Clicks, 3.0 mag. Generally two breaths and a quick rub with the bottom of the T-shirt. A pair generally lasts 8-10 months or so.

I got that Smittys wax for 99. Wow it actually works, apply maybe once a week and you can than just wipe most things off with a clean cloth

Yea no wiping with anything till glass has been rinsed under warm running water and hands washed.

Then only rub with fingers lightly after covering in dosh soap and rinse off under running water.

Gently pat lenses dry with towel or better yet reusable nappy.

Oh I bought some glass wax. Awesome for phones.
