Hi all,

So Fibrehoods will complete installation in my area soon and I am wanting to move over from my VDSL connection!

I have read a few threads here and it seems as if some users are able to use ADSL accounts on their fibre connection and dial out etc?
However that is with Telkom FTTH and not Fibrehoods.

I am looking at getting Vox initially with the Fibre however if I am able to use other ADSL accounts that would be fantastic!

Thanks,
Psy

hey PsyClown.

Welcome to Fibrehoods. I have been with them for a few months now. Enjoy!

Basically, there are a few companies that they deal with who re-sell the fibre to you as part of the package. You need to sign up with one of them. Depends on what you are looking for. If you are already with one of them, you might* be able to use your ADSL data. not sure, so check.

I went with Vox as i really enjoy the 100mbit speed and don't need more than the 300gigs i get. (plus you get a free 1TB anytime and 1 gig mobile data with MTN everymonth) Cost for me was R749. This includes the line rental.

Enjoy

If your fibre is provisioned over Telkom, then it runs over their IPC network and you can use any normal DSL account the ISP offers for your fibre connection.

If the fibre provider is localised (like Fibrehoods) your ISP needs to have an interconnect with Fibrehoods where Fibrehoods then hands over the traffic from your last mile connection to the ISP who then bills you for the data usage...

What are your speeds like - both local and international?
Could you maybe post some speedtests - I am going to be using Vox as well although go for the 500GB package I think - just incase.

Ahh alright, now I understand how it works. It is with Fibrehoods and not Telkom AFAIK.
Also Telkom charge more for their FTTH line rental, not so?

I think for 100Mbit fibre it is R849 per month where I get the same line plus 500GB and more for that price with Vox and Fibrehoods.

Here you go

Its pretty insane.

I've not really suffered any speed issues to date, nor any downtime....

Every time i test, its sitting close to 100/50. At one stage, while in the test phase, i was getting around 300! But that was just during the testing phase.

Wow, I am kinda excited now! Although still a bit of a wait for me until my area is ready.
How is the wireless strength on the router they provide?

Also can you do an international speedtest please - one to the UK / Europe and perhaps one to Northern America?
