Another thing to bear in mind is that in non-Aarto areas there is a difference between a fine that is given to you on the side of the road (e.g. after being physically stopped by a traffic officer) and a fine that you receive in the post (e.g. from a speed camera). Each type is dealt with by a different section of the Criminal Procedures Act. In the case of a fine that issued to you directly on the side of the road, the fine itself serves as a summons to appear in court and will usually already have a court date and court location written on it. If you don't pay that fine you will not receive any further summons to appear in court, and you will eventually have a warrant of arrest issued against you for contempt of court if you don't appear in court on the date mentioned on the fine. These are definitely not the kind of fines you want to ignore.
