Hi all,

This is my first post so please forgive any formatting/issues.

I recently received a traffic fine for driving without my license for R1000 (traffic stop in the Western Cape), having left it at home. The officer said that if I presented the license and fine at the local traffic department, I could get it reduced to just driving without a license on person for R500.

The amounts don't bother me, but various sources say that driving without a valid license results in a criminal record, for good reason, but is the same true for driving without a license on person and then presenting it? Is it worth addressing in person in court?

Thanks!

I thought that when this happens and you show your drivers license within 30 days the fine becomes R0.

Is this not the case?

I think the penalty is 15 years in prison if my memory serves me correct.

I'll send you my bank account details, we can work out a payment plan, don't worry I've got your back.

PS: do you have a man bun, ride a bicycle or even crossfit? Just sorting the paperwork out for you.

Waiting for the I don't actually have a licence part. Its Friday dammit.

No criminal record. If you don't have a license you pay 1000, if you have one you show it to them and pay 500.

or just carry your drivers license

Its over 10 years since I received the same fine, I only paid half of it .........R500

Its a shame that these fines are not linked to inflation, or maybe a 7% annual increase.

Nope, even if you didn't have a license at all it's not a criminal offence.
