How DStv stopped my mate Dave from pirating

Just some perspective. We receive no advertising, or any other support, from MultiChoice or DStv. The opinion may not suit you, but to shout “advertorial” just because you have a different opinion is not of much value.

So are articles like this some kind of requirement from a government agency to keep them off your back ?

Feels like it.

Anyway, I feel like you did your self a disservice by not charging for that article.

looking at the forum here and the DISQUS comments.....you guys missed the mark on the article and have lost some credibility.

I have expanded on my opinion here. an article like this goes against the very principle of the website.

I know its just my opinion (and shared by way more people then I thought....)

this is not tech related, its an add. and if you guys didnt get paid to do it, is just sad.

seriously, write a nice guide on how to use showmax, or netflix or what legal sports streaming alternatives there are.

again, the worldwide trend is to cut the cord, and an article like this keeps the public in the dark. its stuff like this that funds multichoice and this helps them slow down the didgital TV migration, thus leading to spectrum not being released to the mobile networks.

so in short this article STOPS 5G from coming to SA.

Is there an app for Roku and similar?

no idea at all.
I use kodi to stream my series and illigal sites like crictfree to watch the presious little amount of sport I do care about.

I have not yet found any way to add sport to Kodi that works reliably, and for some reason whenever there is a way to do it, and someone posts about it here the account he uses to get support sport gets blocked, funny how that happens....

ok. so lets break it down.

we are here as a community to give advice on all sorts of things.

there are threads talking about how to use netflix to cut the cord.
the clear technological trend worldwide is to get rid of cable/sattelite TV and move to online based viewing. pay for what you want to see directly to the people making it so you dont get to see ads.

then the very site we use as this platform goes and posts an article like this stating exactly the opposite of what we are all saying.

this article is not only badly put together, badly written and blatantly an add despite claiming to not be one, but it also undermines the advice we give, thus alienating the forum members.

in short this article is insulting to us, the forumites, simply for being published.

rpm please remove this drivel, and rather post a guide on how to set up netflix and how to stream sport legally by paying for it without giving monochoice a cent.

It has capital letters at least...

You've uncovered the great conspiracy - MyBroadband articles are the driving force behind the government and Icasa not handing out spectrum. This article is the reason 5G is not in South Africa.

Now that you have uncovered the truth, we will have to leave our evil lair situated inside a volcano and only write articles you agree with. Thus making us a truly independent publication.

This type of sarcy response is not doing you guys any good. There is an overwhelming response that this article stinks, and instead of doing the honourable thing and accepting responsibility and requesting feedback on how to improve, you go on the offence.

Can you imagine during the days of MyADSL, when this site was founded, if there was an article pushing people towards Telkom rather than alternatives? It would be unheard of. This is what is really sad - how far you guys have diverged from the original vision of sticking it to the monopoly...

DSTV is not a monopoly though?

Fact that SABC has been run into the ground by incompetent cadres is not Multichoices's fault.

Same for TopTv (or whatever it was called) being a complete disaster.

Must say, I don't get the hate for DSTV. It's premium subscription is the price of one PS4 game - there is no comparing the content you receive.

Go other (legal) routes if you want to and have the internet speed - I don't.

Although, it seems to me that this "hate" is just a convenient excuse for (some) to pirate.

Now let me slap some sunscreen on for the coming burn :)

As an honest conveyer of "Truth", could you tell "Dave" that he is missing out on the latest season of Narcos by using DSTV.
