How DStv stopped my mate Dave from pirating

I get why the writers are defending the work.
and I know I cannot write a better article myself, me spelling and grammar is terrible.

Despite the content of this article being a sore point and my nearly 100 points of rep for calling you on it suggesting the forum agrees.

just do us a favor. one tiny little article on how to cut the cord. how to not miss out AND not be a pirate. that is all we are asking for.

and please please please get a language editor. I know for a fact that 3 professional language editors have sent you their CV's those are just the ones that I told about the openings. that you guys advertised.

remember in the "how to improve myBB" thread, I said something. and then I realized I was wrong, this was about openweb. did I go back and admit I was wrong?
all we are asking for, is one article on how to LEGALLY cut the cord. and the best part is, all the legwork has been done. in this forum.

Besides, ad's are easily skimmed past; and there are rather few of them. Put on pause, go have a crap and then you have plenty of buffer to FF with :)

The only thing that really grates my carrot is the long gap between certain episodes that are fulled with promo's of upcoming or current shows. I need to have a long poo to be able to FF past these.



The rights that they have bought legally (and in an open market) are because the competition were pathetic. Any good business would have done the same.

Jinne, it's getting hot in here! I guess the silver lining here is that if Steven had not written the article we would not have had a discussion on how to move from Multichoice to alternatives with such aggregated information and suggestions. Thanks Steven, you've helped more people be less like Dave :)

I will give you that. saying we dont have 5G because of this article is taking it a bit far.

but is it true that multi-choice is fighting tooth and nail against digital TV migration? I believe it was on this very site where you guys posted an article where they said they supported the migration, but you guys showed them funding the lawsuits against the move? or was that mail and gaurdian? I cant remember. right now.

is it also true that the slowdown of digital migration is slowing down the roll out of more spectrum?

did Vodacom not say the only reason they do not have better 4G coverage was due to lack of spectrum?

does this not mean that multi-choice is stopping better internet access for all in SA?
does that not mean that in supporting them you are limiting our access to better internet?

Maybe you should take it up with ICASA, or do some research, or maybe Kevin can write a useful article on it (although I wouldn't get my hopes up given the way things are looking). But I'm not going to provide you with a list of events of the past 20 years of history as I have better things to do with my time... ;)

Same as sport, the sport rights are sold to the highest bidder, there is nothing funny going on, they just can afford it. Oh also that for the first couple of years MNet struggled to actually survive, as the competition (SABC and BopTV) actually showed decent shows. That's why there was open time.

Too me, it seems a bit of a mob mentality thing. And I am quite convinced that people use it to convince themselves that pirating is ok. It's like, "yeah, **** you DSTV, you big, evil, repeating, monopoly monster - I'm going to torrent and show you. Yeah!!!!" :D

you can stream sport in a bad quality for free on lots of free online streams and there is also kodi for beter quality

Fine:
The article looks like an advertorial. Specifically its use of a character like "Dave" to explain away the sins of piracy and benefits of "Ad-free" DSTV. You even admitted it by trying to put a disclaimer at the bottom.

Provide a video interview of this "Dave" rambling away on how much better DSTV is, and we will forgive you.

This will end up in a massive debate as to the definition of "legally". If we decide that the only "legal" options are via providers that are licensed to provide content in SA then the article writes itself - Netflix and Showmax.

Oh, and those other services that nobody ever remembers that seem to fade away into obscurity as quickly as they arrived on the scene.

Of course they can't mention Showmax because they're Naspers…
