How Everyshop will take on Takealot

Biggest reason why Takealot (and Amazon for that matter) are successful is that they are not online shops. They are successful because they are online shopping platforms for other people's businesses. This is because someone at these companies bothered to pick up a book on basic economics:

If we can agree that the economic problem of society is mainly one of rapid adaptation to changes in the particular circumstances of time and place, it would seem to follow that the ultimate decisions must be left to the people who are familiar with these circumstances, who know directly of the relevant changes and of the resources immediately available to meet them. We cannot expect that this problem will be solved by first communicating all this knowledge to a central board which, after integrating all knowledge, issues its orders. We must solve it by some form of decentralization. But this answers only part of our problem. We need decentralization because only thus can we insure that the knowledge of the particular circumstances of time and place will be promptly used. But the "man on the spot" cannot decide solely on the basis of his limited but intimate knowledge of the facts of his immediate surroundings. There still remains the problem of communicating to him such further information as he needs to fit his decisions into the whole pattern of changes of the larger economic system.

Third party sellers on Takealot or Amazon are going to be closer to the needs and wants of consumers than any employee of Takealot or Amazon. Which is why they will always know more about what products to sell and what price to sell then the host platform.

If Everyshop wanted to take on Takealot, they would focus on making the best platform for third party online shops possible. That means:
1) Having a functional and intelligent product search.
2) Provide competitive prices against Takealot 's market for third parties.

Distribution and returns shouldn't be a problem as they are already doing the customer support thing in their existing locations.

Yes, what Amazon did was not groundbreaking, its been done for centuries...injecting yourself like a parasite between 2 parties.

You have to start out with the initial selling yourself, which what Amazon did and Takealot copy that. Your stance that the 3rd party seller know better is not true, the platform knows that better than any seller on it. The platform has access to all the data. On Amazon the buy button is afforded to the "best" seller at that time, based on sales history, not because you have the best price. If you as a 3rd party seller can funnel plenty of traffic to your direct product listing, and it results in healthy sales, the algorithm awards you the buy button in organic sales.

The percentages represent the share of physical gross merchandise sales sold on Amazon by independent third-party sellers – mostly small- and medium-sized businesses – as opposed to Amazon retail’s own first party sales. Third-party sales have grown from 3% of the total to 58%. To put it bluntly:

Third-party sellers are kicking our first party butt. Badly.

And it’s a high bar too because our first-party business has grown dramatically over that period, from $1.6 billion in 1999 to $117 billion this past year. The compound annual growth rate for our first-party business in that time period is 25%. But in that same time, third-party sales have grown from $0.1 billion to $160 billion – a compound annual growth rate of 52%. To provide an external benchmark, eBay’s gross merchandise sales in that period have grown at a compound rate of 20%, from $2.8 billion to $95 billion.

I would hardly call Amazon injecting itself like a parasite between 2 parties.

What Amazon have done is provide a platform for sellers that gives them access to an immense customer base, with insanely good tools and also the logistics network to match.
As a small independent seller you could never hope to have the resources to build the same sort of platform/network that Amazon gives you access to for their fee.

I wonder if Everyshop even bothered to hire people/a firm to gauge online reaction to their new platform.

Maybe you should read my post again. I didn't argue against them not selling the most....that is the aim of a good marketplace...to direct the sale to the 3rd party seller...based on massive data the marketplace has...thus serving the customer the best seller at the time...NOT because the 3rd party knows better.

Bought a PC from them today, lets see how the delivery process goes

That isn't how it works.

Amazon does not look for products for 3rd party sellers to sell. Third party sellers are the ones that have to think about what products to sell and what price to sell them at. Not Amazon. That is where, overall, 3rd party sellers have a huge advantage over Amazon. They don't have to go up and down the corporate hierarchy to get a product approved and added to the store.

If Amazon had the data to predict what people would want to buy well, 3rd party sellers wouldn't exist on their platform, and even if they don't have the ability to make a good prediction, they would never, in a million years sell it to someone else.

Not only are they a parasite, the also leech off their own sellers by exploiting their sellers data against them in creating house labels.

Yes it is.

The BUY BOX is not static, its based on the Amazon algorithm.

Anecdotal, but I ordered a fitibit charge 4 from every shop. Cheapest price by far compared to takealot and sportsman's (I paid 2.3 vs others listing it for 3.1)

It was in my hands in 2 days and shipping was free. I got an sms when the courier was starting his delivery route

I'm quite happy with the service I received

Bought a PC from them today, lets see how the delivery process goes

Placed the order yesterday at 13:00. Got the confirmation email and tracking details later the day. (Delivery was estimated at 3 - 6 working days). PC was delivered today at 12:00 so less than 24 hours. Very pleased with their service will definitely use them again. Only concern is how they will handle the growth and if their service / delivery will remain the same or decrease with more orders

I thought I would give them a go as well as they had a shredder at a good price with 2-5 business day delivery.

With CourierJan 28, 20238:48 AMJD35 : Parcel picked and handed to courier

It's been close to two weeks and all their useless call centre can do is escalate my call.

Never again.

So the question remain: Are they legit?

Did you use EFT or Credit Card?

That's why I would rather pay a bit more on Takealot. Their logistics process just works...

They are JD Group's online store so they sure are legit. The order process is seamless and the order update mails are great.

The problem seems to be between the shop itself and their courier partners.

After 3 calls a day since Thursday and 10 promises to escalate my query I eventually received the shredder today. It only took 10 working days.

Only in good old S.A.

My Amazon, UK package arrived within 5 days !

Da hell with fcking lockers. Home/work delivery or nothing. What's with these half arse online shopping kark.
I prefer pickup points, I am not always at home when they deliver, and I cannot always be here the whole day for a delivery at 3pm.

For me, lockers will work.

I hate the interface will never shop there now.

why tf is money being spent on LOCATION BASED services? who tf wants expansion to presences in malls? clearly the vision of this company is still brick and motar
Some things I prefer to see and experience, for example, a sound system.
