GOOD IDEA, It either works or does not work [ DEAD LINE ]
My landline was off for two days and it started WORKING,MAGIC

Vodacom in Norscot sucks, constant dropped calls and weak signal (i.e. EDGE) pathetic

Smartphones to blame for bad coverage, new study claims

See the article http://www.mobileeurope.co.uk/Press...bad-performance-and-coverage-new-study-claims

Smartphones are also partly to blame for issues such as missed calls, weak signal reception, etc. I noticed that when my phone is slow I am more likely to get a missed call SMS (even though the phone is switched on the entire time and I have a good signal). On occasions I am also unable to make a call until I "reboot" the phone!

From the article, "Strand’s report concludes phone manufacturers are evading responsibility by neither informing users about the affect phones have nor optimising them for networks."

Another example of bad smartphone software is today's article, "Vodafone Warns iPhone Users to Avoid OS Upgrades - Killing Battery Life."

Vodacoms signal is quite bad I have to walk outside to get a clear signal and whats funny is the tower is not even 1 km meter away

At first I thought it was only my moms old phone but it did the same with my Samsung Galaxy S

RPM, if you reference this article on myBB, Vodacom had a 100% Call Setup Rate according to ICASA.

Not sure how much better than 100% you want? :)

Call drop rate was 2% off but, at least, was the best of all.

I would love to know how Vodacom measure that figure tbh,

Its been quite a while where I haven't had an issue on calls, and I get at least 1 dropped call out of every 10.

I have both a CellC and Vodacom phone on me pretty much at all times. I mainly use the Vodacom phone, but decided to get the CellC phone because I get so many dropped calls on Vodacom. I have to say that at least one in every four calls are dropped. Surprisingly, my CellC phone is almost always on 3G and never drops a call. My Vodacom phone has patchy 3G and Vodacom's EDGE is synonymous with "No Internet".
PS. Cape Town Northern Suburbs

Vodacom used to be amazing ! I cannot make a call from home any longer and sms's are delayed by up to six hours sometimes. It's going downhill fast !

MTN is reliable on S2 and Blackberry - calls, messages and data. CellC data non existent in the evening for the past few weeks even with full signal, 8ta data fantastic. Randburg and Northcliff.

The number I quoted?

Was measured and reported by ICASA, not Vodacom.

@jannievanzyl
I wish they could do the same test you (article you referenced) in the Western Cape, specifically around Cape Town. I've been struggling with a cell handover when you go over the Plattekloof/N7 bridge where calls consistently simply drop. Reported the issue a year ago and I still get the same problem.

Can barely understand half the words in most phone calls. They seem to have added one of those algos that keeps the channel closed until it detects speaking. Problem is that its too slow, so the first 200ms of every sentence gets cut. Lots & lots of noise on the line - varies from wind-like sounds to buzzing.

Thats when I get reception at all. Pity that I'll be forced to endure another ~18 months of MTN's crap network.

I don't think VC is all that great either, but it can't be worse than MTN.

Coverage in my area sucks.

Too bad, that no one would like to permit and implement things like they dо in some countries:
It is permitted to buy GSM/3G extender and register it with provider. Once registered, one can plug their LAN cable and use internet at home to provide limited coverage to surrounding houses. Usually providers give bonus in form of "free" minutes.

Wahhahhah what a load of crap, then if that's what they said, clearly the tests are complete rubbish.
Sorry but this is absolute horseshyte.

So first you attack the MNOs for trying to "suppress" ICASA tests, which (though not true) just fits into your world where everything seems to be a conspiracy.

When I point out the ICASA report showed Vodacom actually did OK, YOU now attack the ICASA report?

As I've implored you so many times before; please (please) first read what you post about. It really makes for a much more informed conversation, don't you think?

Hi, I know the spot and have also reported it myself so I know the guys are trying to fill it in. There's actually a fair amount of stuff happening in the Cape around the network at the moment.

Called Femtocells and we're busy with them.

Hold on a sec, you are the ones that stopped ICASA from releasing a potentially damaging report, so I wonder why?
With the way Vodacom and MTN conduct themselves, conspiracy is exactly what I would expect to find.
I attack anything that says you performed well because in reality and if you bother to look on mybb , you will see how blatantly unhappy everyone is with Vodacom and their pathetic "specials" on data

I read, but I chose what to take with a pinch of salt, thanks ;)

@Jannie - are you aware of any complaints/problems in Rondebosch, particularly close to Bishops area?Vodacom signal is really poor(tested on an iPhone and Blackberry) but not sure what this can be attributed to.Area has a lot of trees and parts of the suburb almost sit in a dip.
