How in the hell do I...

Okay, so this is currently the issue. As soon as I go into fastboot mode, the phone disconnects.

I'm stumped.

Copa, here are the steps I followed, as my ROM had a locked bootloader and I too had issues getting into fastboot. I think you have the identical issue - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/548763-Huawei-P6?p=12243886&viewfull=1#post12243886

basically you need to flash a ROM with an unlocked bootloader, then flash the recovery, then flash whatever ROM you want. Also continue reading the thread, as I had another issue thereafter with the system and cache partition.

Hope this helps to get you sorted out...

Your ROM has a locked bootloader. Folow my advice in my last post...

I don't think this is the case, as I have this one currently installed:

Use the correct drivers. Had the exact same issues. Dont use the HIsuite drivers. Use these http://singledrivers.blogspot.com/2014/01/huawei-ascend-p6-usb-driver-for-windows.html

1. Update officialy to the chinese kitkat. B506 using the huawei recovery method. (no need to unlock bootloader)
2. Root the phone
3. Flash TWRP 2.7
4. Flash latest omni build (we have fixed most issues on it now)

Edit..
I see you have done most of this. Please uninstall hisuite.
Then install this drivers. RESTART etc etc.

Check first that adb is working, by using adb devices.
Then adb reboot bootloader
Check if bootloader is unlocked,
Once in bootloader check that your phone is in device manager.
If not change usb port.

I am now in fastboot mode, and I can see the phone in Device Manager.

"fastboot devices" gives me:

I am not sure what you mean/how to "Check if bootloader is unlocked".

What I am hoping to be able to do next is the following:

Step 6.

I presume it should not look like that (the device name).

I don't want to proceed, without being clear on what's going on here.

use twrp 2.7 the older versions isnt for kitkat.

Just reboot now into fastboot. Type fastboot oem unlock

Post screen please after that

please post exact status of flash. are you in bootloader now?
is your bootloader unlocked?

HOwever if your phone is running chinese i think your already unlocked. I cant help if you dont tell me what you have done so far and then we can go tthru it step by step

Yes it is running Chinese.

As far as I can gather, I don't need to root it/TWRP roots it (the dev said so, although I can be damned if I can find where now, I've been to so many different sites now).

Next post will be a synopsis of what I have done so far. Thanks for your help.

mm your confused mate.
Okay
now type adb reboot bootloader
then type fastboot devices once the phone has rebooted. Post screen then

First of all, what am I trying to do here?

This:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2673839

On that page, there is a "Prepare your device" section:

I have done:

"* Update your device to officially Huawei KitKat Beta by /dload/UPDATE.APP method "

What I am struggling with is:

"* Flash ( in bootloader mode ) TWRP 2.6.3.7 or TWRP 2.7.0.0 Recovery for KitKat"

I understand. Omni best rom, I'm part of the dev team with surdu.

Did you follow these steps?
now type adb reboot bootloader
then type fastboot devices once the phone has rebooted. Post screen then
