have u guys seen the article on ITWEB today?
http://www.itweb.co.za/sections/telecoms/2006/0608171215.asp?
Prepare for ADSL disillusionment
Talks about the longawaited changes to ADSL regulations (wish)
They say, among the new rules :
The maximum waiting period for the installation of an ADSL line by Telkom and the second national operator has been shortened to 30 days.
haa haa haa! 30 days .... and then what?? I'd like to see that happen. duh

My install took 8 days (including today, when it was installed). Phoned to apply last Wednesday, guy told me it would take 6 weeks. Preparing myself for the worst (and possibly to wait much longer than that), I was shocked when a tech called me yesterday to say he would pop round today. He was on time, efficient and took 10 mins to setup and test the line. Another 10 mins for me to setup the modem and it was all systems go.

Most impressed.

Me old man ordered ADSL in CT city centre, it was up and running within 5 days. Beat me by four days  :)

Their connection seems terribly slow for 512 though, but they're using MWEB as ISP :/

wow, it really seems like Telkom are improving their install times a lot. I have heard so many stories of people saying that they got their adsl in less than 2 weeks.

Maybe they are starting to change their ways? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Got my connection in march 2006. It took less than a week to get it installed. I ordered on the Friday and the next Wednesday it was install. I was shocked to see it all finished when I got home that evening. :D

Stop moaning that your line is taking long/ took long. Im on this call now where the guy applied for ADSL in December last year and it still hasn’t been installed……… crazy

[edit] he is calm about it ( not complaining or anything like that) [/edit]

They installed the new line yesterday, I waited about 3 months. The only problem is that the installer is a contractor and is not allowed to connect the line at the exchange and Telkom didn't do it. I now have to wait for Telkom to connect it, hope it doesn't take another 3 months.

Don't get too excited, I was waiting for an installation date for 3 weeks.

Week four at the moment, was told on the 10th Aug that everything was ready and all I need is the install date which should take 48-72 hours.

Since then, I appear to be confined to some sort alternate reality where time passes much slower than actually perceived.

I suspect this is very similar to dog years, just in reverse. e.g. 1 year telkom time = 7 years human time.

Things DONT happen when you email them. Over the 10 months of waiting, I have emailed them 17 times, and got a grand total of 4 replies, even though they read each email I sent them, and even deleted one without even reading it (Gotta love Return receipts). Of those 4 replies, one was from someone not even in ADSL installs dept., so it actually counts as 3 replies.

Read here for the REAL picture of the $%^$ many have to deal with when dealing with Telkom.

I had to get a new line installed. After it was done, I realised they'd messed up and not installed my ADSL, it was cancelled by some one at Telkom. But 3 days later I had ADSL. So other than them messing up my order, thats pretty good.
