Guys, I had a wierd experience with Telkom and so I think I will share it. Maybe it will help.

I got my install date, it was set for the 14th March. I almost resigned myself to the wait but then I rememberd: "don't Telkom do after hours installs" So I called the lady who gave me my install date back and asked her. She said that yes, they did. I was surfing that very evening.

If you don't ask, you don't get :)

Back again ADSL

Called Thursday evening last week. Applied for self install, apparently in my area it is not available unless I sign 2-year contract. Called Durban Friday morning to escalate the install, spoke to PTA. The technician will connect by 4PM, not done, Wait to Monday morning 8, not done, 12, 4pm, not done. Tech only has to connect jumpers at station. At last done today 4 PM.; could have been Friday 4 PM.

Now to find a useful ISP, cheapest, 10 Gig?, VOIP required,

Yes, DigitalSoldier, that was AFTER all the port allocation and testing, which took about 3 weeks. Still I would have waited another 4 weeks if I had kept my mouth shut

After being on hold 22 minutes (!!!!!!), I finally got told that my installation should be happening TOMORROW - this is now 2 months after the order was placed.

Fingers-crossed that the technician actually pitches tomorrow...

Almost 6 months

Ordered my ADSL the end of September, so its been almost six months now.

But I am very optimistic because my application has been "escalated"
and the planning department should be calling me any day now. :)

The part that really irritated me was that they weren't arriving when I was told they would. Missed five appointments or more.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I'm in the same boat, ordered in October, it's now the end of march and still no ADSL and 4 missed installation appointments (that's 4 days off work to meet the bastards here).

I have an order number
I have an ARS complaint number
I have left 12 (count 'em) messages for Nur Pieters in Cape Town (0214144865) who is apparently the manager of the ADSL call-desk.
I have phoned the voice ops-manager of my local exchange, but he only deals with voice, not ADSL so he's "passing it on"

Today, I shall be mostly driving around the neighbourhood looking for Telkom vans so I can find out who these guys actuall report to and get a phone number.

from what I have heard, I was expecting at least 6 weeks,
but it took a week, belive it or not.
OK to be fair to telkom and their reputation, I was visited by 4 different technicians, one of them a couple days after adsl was installed. The guy that did it was at my place from about 10 until 2 in the afternoon ( they had to downgrade from 384 to 192 as the line test failed )
All in all tho, I am very satisfied.

This is in the technological backwater also known as parklands, tableview (where we're normally happy to just get electricity and water)

I got an installation date after I ordered my line installation more than 2 weeks ago. The installation date came and gone and they just don't pitch up. In all honestly, I don't think I'm EVER going to get my line. Telkom is useless. If Telkom was a small furry animal I would shoot it in the face with a double-barrel shotgun at close range.

Don't hold your breath. They told me the same story, heck, I even got a specific TIME when the oke should have showed up and it just never happened. Their dates and times are just given to customers in the hope to shut them up. Keep phoning them till it's done and then phone them 4 more times afterwards just for good measure.

Ordered on the 6th of March and I'm still waiting.

People across the road ordered about a month ago and are now pointing at me and laughing cause their's has been installed, apparently there are no lines available on my side of the road...

About a month.
When I worked in the USA, I applied on a Monday morning, and before noon Tuesday I was up and running with Comcast.
