Hey, their mistake.

I thought about telling them about it and I felt bad for a while but all the booze I bought for the R404 soon took care of that.:D

They screw so many other people and now they screwed themselves.

The brainiacs at Telkom had a "problem" with my ADSL request...

They ended up assigning me an ISDN port at the exchange! DOH...

Apparently that has been resolved, now I'm waiting for install date. It's been just over a month since I logged the request...

cyberbob I hate you ;)

I placed my order for ADSL (and a phone line, same as you) late in January, and they haven't even been able to give me an install date yet.

But I still hope they stick to their install date for you... you lucky bastard.

Delayed 4 times - Took 6 months for business ADSL installation., apparently there wern't any lines available on the exchange, so we bribed the local Telkom techi's to put in a new line, which they did in the middle of the night.

Worked 100% :)

Heres hoping it's 9 March 2006 and that they stick to it.... yeah right....

I ordered new line and dsl192 but specified self-install. The line was done in about a week and a half, 4 days later they've tested my line and they say it should be ready foor self-instll by early next week, they just need to allocat a port to me on the dslam. So I'm hoping against hope there is a port available and that they actually do it by next week..... So far so good.

I placed my order on the afternoon of the 10th, and by lunch time on the 16th, I was surfing on my new ADSL line :)

So, goes to show, Miracles do happen!

Telkom in Western Cape(Parow Area) service is great. Took only 3 weeks from ordering ADSl till installation. The tech who installed the line was very professional and did really know what he was doing. Phoned in Advanced to ask what time will be best for me and then confirmed on the date of installation. It is good to know there is still people in Telkom who is taking pride in there work.

My first installation took approx. 3 - 4 weeks for my 192 line. I have then first week of January applied for a 384 line. I'm still waiting after a good couple of follow up calls.

They first told me that it would take 2 weeks, then they called me 2 days later to say they had a cancellelation and i was up and running after 5 days, but i had a gripe with them about another problem so i guess they were trying to make amends on that

Thinking of downgrading from a 512 to a 384, but actucually relent to apply as I will probably be disconnected for couple of weeks!. Installation only took 2.5 weeks, downgrade will probably take forever.

On 512 what is your up and down speed according to your modem/router... I ordered 384 and am being told its 512 upstream... just wondering what this is in reality. I am happy with my speed btw. Downgrade.. use the bucks for something else... Just don't spend it on the movies as you'll be subject to the odd Telkom ad!

Speeds as indicated by the telkom test. To me they seem very close to 384 speeds which is why I'm thinking of downgrading to 384

Download time: 9.484 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 430.2 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 52.7 (kiloBytes/second)

No you won't if you call Telkom and ask to be downgraded it will be done immediately they do it online and the cost to do so is +- R 265.00 including vat.

I downgraded from a 384 down to a 192 i mainly chat on ym and check my mail and visit three sites that i moderate so i'm not really looking for speed. I also downloaded a browser that is called Ace Explorer and that is pretty fast and i'm happy and have saved R 89 pm.

Download time: 23.594 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 172.9 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 21.2 (kiloBytes/second)

The above was the Telkom test

Last Result:
Download Speed: 262 kbps (32.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 144 kbps (18 KB/sec transfer rate)

The above was the Speakeasy Test
