This whole thread is just so bloody depressing. Why do we have to battle so much to get a service which we are going to pay for? I want to rip my hair out in despair and frustration.

And what does is all boil down to in simple terms? We have no choice if we want an always on, 'hi-speed' landline connection.

Dont give me that rubbish that we have Sentech or WBS or 3g as alternatives. Bollocks. They are all equally expensive and I personally can get no signal from ANY other of them so Im forced to get Telkom DSL.

Tell me about it!

The speed sucks! I am getting 150.96Kbps to Cape Town from Joburg and 93.6 Kbps to Texas, US from Joburg. (Tested on the RSAWEB speed tester).

Only 4 months to go then!

Slooth, if you have only waited 4 months, then you have 4 months still to go. Phone 0800600126. Make sure you get an ARS complaint number. That should speed it up by about an hour less than four months.

I applied 01 Dec 2005 was told the 3-4 weeks jargon. I am in the same boat of "no ports available" and "busy planning a ports project". I was told ports will be installed on the 16th Jan, and I might get my ADSL by the 19-20th. But reading this forum I think the Cheetahs will win the currie cup again, rolf!

After having the "ports planning project" been extented twice, being told it has been completed when it was not, I am looking at minimum 4 months before they even will consider allocating me a port...

 Why, oh why Telkom..?

That sucks erickza!

I'm still waiting for my installation date - their latest excuses are "we're still waiting to allocate an alanlogue port" and "there is a backlog in your area".

This is over a week after telling me that it'll only take 48 hours to allocate a port.

Sheesh... telkom....

The North Rand exchange is 2 blocks from where I live - I think I should stake it out & corner one of the technicians! :D

Does not look good IntouchSA,

I was told the same bollocks. Phone the complaints number (0800 600 126) and was told she (Mandy) is seeing estimated date for ports planning is 31 March 2006 although I was told by the ASDL helpdesk it was completed. Mandy said she will need to check and will phone me back the next day... that was Thursday...

Looks like I'm out of luck as not even the complaints department care anymore...

I think the SNO will offer ADSL in my area before Telkom gets back to me...

...the saga continues...

Mandy never logged a call as I suspected, and has gone on maternaty leave. The new lady logged a call for me and will "get back to me". I am really getting stuffed arround...

unlucky erikza :(

I phoned agains this morning and spoke to a really helpful chap - he asked me to hold & I could hear him talking to himself as he was checking up on things, completing this form, doing x, then y, etc :)

He then came back to me and rallted off a whole bunch of acronyms that I have no clue what they mean, but it seems as though the gist of it is that I should DEFINITELY be hearing from someone in the next 48 hours....

A much better attitude than the previous "It takes 4 - 6 weeks, you just have to wait" schmuck I spoke to last time.

Fingers crossed....

Mine took about 11 days.

I was moving from Durbanville to Brackenfell so a applied for a line tranfer and for adsl at the same time.

They said it would take 3 weeks and I said "yeh right".

Got a call 10 days later from Telkom who asked if he could install it the next day. The line was in and working 3 days before my furniture arrived and 7 days before I bought a modem.

I was billed by Telkom for a new line and adsl installation so I paid it but then I queried the installation fee since I was told that the line transfer would be free.

The "nice people" refunded both the line and adsl installation.
