How long do you keep your devices?

PC: Just did a mobo/CPU/GPU/RAM upgrade after 4 years
Laptop: had one for 6 years, is in the cupboard now though
Tablet: died this month after 3 years, won't be replacing it.
Phone; 2 years on the dot, no plans on replacing it till it dies.

New buys? As often as I can afford them.
Keep items? As long as they can be useful.

Ive got multiple devices that I have "hacked" old parts into. Working on a specific drone that does not have a camera? Aaah, this old waterproof Motorolo defy of mine can do the job! :D (great for recovering weather balloons as well :D)

My old PC stands next to my current PC, I aint letting that computing power go to waste!

PC - Sold recently - not getting another anytime soon (For gaming I bought the PS4 Pro & Xbox One S)
Laptop (Dell E7250)- Every 2 years
Tablet (Nexus 9)- Usually once a year but been stuck with the Nexus 9 for quite a while now
Phone (S7 Edge)- Once a year

as proved by the Google Pixel (having the best camera ever)
Read some rather ominous reports of problems with the camera yesterday...weird pink lines across the pics & camera app freezing.

sjoe ..... some of you ous keep your kit longer than some ous keep their girlfriends ..... :)
Also surprised - longer periods than expected.

Desktop - don't have one. Died during shipping. Used to be good for 4 years when I did have one
Laptop - on year 2, hoping for 3
Tablet - just bought new one, say 3 years
Phone - 2.5 currently but will shorten this to 1.5 or 1 going forward (annoyed by it now & gonna switch to cash buy probably)

I used to upgrade for more processing power regularly in the past but Moores Law pretty much ground to a halt around 2009/10.

Don't see any point in upgrading simply because Intel squeezed a bit more out of their latest processor - at considerable cost ...

PC- mine is going on 7 years now. Still going great. Upgraded GPU once.

Laptop - 1 year (previous one got stolen)

Phone - every 2 years.

They push up the resolution. For VR you need 2/4K screens (something Apple still needs to include).
With Windows 10 on arm and also Ubuntu 17.04 with Unity 8 and Google's Andromeda where phones can become a full blown desktop if docked to a bigger screen the more processing power you have the better.
There's still loads more they can do as proved by the Google Pixel (having the best camera ever) like better low lighting pictures and also what Apple is doing on the iPhone 7 plus's dual camera setup and bokeh effect software enhancements.

Yes, don't get me wrong - they should carry on pushing boundaries. I just don't think people can get impressed that easily anymore like when we got the first generation of all these technologies.

My current PC is on the same motherboard, RAM and CPU since 2009, it only got a new HDD 2 or so years ago, not planning to replace it even though I currently use it for work on a daily basis.
I Got a late 2013 iMac in the middle of 2014, use it on a daily basis and it's still going strong, I think it should at least be able to do another 3 or so years comfortably then I'll probably replace it with another Apple desktop machine.
A Fujitsu laptop since 2010, used it on a daily basis and it especially worked hard in the last year or so, it's currently on its last legs and I'll replace it with a MacBook Pro hopefully by the end of this year.
I replace phones every 2 years as per my contract.
I had a iPad for 6 or so months then gave it to my mom, I simply never used it to even 10% of its potencial, I used it for even less than what my mom currently uses it for, (as her Facebook, browsing and photo machine). I doubt I'll get a tablet again anytime soon, for me it's just a glorified and expensive toy.

Note 3 - 3 years.
Laptop - 2 years.
Desktop PC... it doesn't count as I buy and sell/trade components every now and then.

As above, Until they die...

PC - Don't have one as I change to a laptop 9 years back
Laptop - until it stops playing new games etc. So probably 3-4 years, still got my old Acer laptop which still works even though the battery doesn't
Tablet - Every 4 years until they stop updating it with new android OS
Phone - Every 2 years when the contract renews, but still have my old phones and the battery lasts that long too.

I don't own a desktop pc. I usually upgrade phones every two years and will pass the older one down in the family. I am holy on my tech so whoever gets it think they get a new device :-). Have had my personal laptop for 5 years now and keep it until it dies. Tablets I will also keep until they no longer function as the novelty of them have worn off for me. However we do get new business laptops and phones at work every two years.

Cars on the other hand - The itch comes up about once every 12 months....

Upgrading phones has become a lot less exciting in the past few years, I guess this includes tablets too. The level of perceived technological advancement just seems to have plateaued. Screens can only get so good and processors reach a point where they're fast enough for most everyday tasks, cameras are also hitting limits on what they can achieve in the amount of space available. Some company is going to have to come up with something that we all suddenly can't live without to continue keeping profits up on new devices.

Agreed totally. I was really happy with my new Samsung S6 (I'd never had a Galaxy phone before) and I'm still happy with it. I doubt that I'll upgrade to anything else in July when my contract ends, just nothing out there that will help me be a better Clash of Clans player lol.

PC - MSI i3 - 4.5 Years (not planning to upgrade)
Laptop - Asus i5 Vivobook - 3 years (planning to upgrade)
Tablet - 10" inch - 8 months
Cellphone - HTC One M8 - 2 years (not planning to upgrade)

Computer I have since 2010 still going strong.

Screens I had since 2009 still going strong.

It helps to buy the best when you buy.
