Hello all,

So I recently took out 2 contracts with Cell C- the Active Chat 100 with the Galaxy S II. On one of my contracts, I requested that my old prepaid number be ported across to Cell C. This was done via the call centre (084 145).

To the point of the story, my number is still not ported despite having the phones and contracts since the 22/03/2012. I have had numerous problems, some of which were beyond Cell C's control.

I need my number ported across ASAP as I use it for business purposes and it would be an inconvenience to have to change my number when I requested otherwise. The call centre and Cell C stores have given me the run around (customer service refers me to the porting division, who refers me to the sales division, who refers me back to the customer services division, of which two people there actually tried to assist me), and my prepaid service provider can do nothing on their end. I am currently using my other contract which expires this week.

Anyone else I can contact to have this resolved?

Always taken 24 hours for me and I've done one to Cell C once. Are you porting from Cell C pre-paid?

From MTN prepaid. There were issues in that MTN had deactivated my number, and I needed to have it reactivated and RICA'd (all done two weeks back) but despite that, the porting still failed, according to the customer service centre. I was actually told to go to MTN for help, which I did and found out that they can do nothing.

I was given a reference number on Thursday when I followed up yet again (0961307) but no one has called me back yet, despite promises that I would be called the next day (this was on Thursday).

CellC has a rep here. Maybe they will be along shortly as it is a normal work day and hopefully they can help you ...

The port was quick but for all the subsequent issues to be resolved probably took about a week. My port was VC to VC though :P

Not doubting Cell C's abilities here, just really would like my number ported this month still? Hopefully the Cell C rep here can be of assistance, he generally seems to be a very proactive guy.

"How long is a piece of string"

It always depends on how well (if it all) the person who handled your case, does their job. It's like playing Russian roulette. When I walk into a cellular shop (or any shop with attendants), I'd have to try and find the empty barrel....

So I tried calling to follow up on my query. Customer services told me I need to be transferred to the porting department, and put me on hold but didn't transfer me. So I hung up, and dialled the porting division myself. Only to be told by Trevor Noah that I have reached them after hours and have the call cut! Seriously?

Seriously do you expect that serious customers make porting decision during holidays?
Answer is - forever, unless you do something. If your number hasn't been ported, it could be hold by your previous SP. My friend had Virgin contract, moved to prepaid two years ago. Porting to 8ta was not going through. He contacted Virgin to discover that his SIM was still registered as contract SIM.

If it is a similar case, Cell C won't help you, as they don't know how to speak to the previous SP. So my advice, contact (your Virgin) and know your status.

As I said above- I have already been to my previous SP, who had assisted me and advised me to return to Cell C as there is nothing that can be done on their end. The matter is with Cell C and their porting division.

Hi all,

Just some feedback- Cell_C has been very useful and has assisted me greatly. Hopefully by tomorrow morning my number should be ported. Will update then.

Hello everyone,
