How many GB's would you settle for?

these morons at Telkom still expect 3GBs to last?
The don't care whether it last, as long as the $$$ are right. They would sell 10mb caps if they could, but 3GB has become the acceptable norm, so thats what they can get away with.

I'd want to download 24/7 at a reasonable rate (Say 40KB/s...So 98 GB cap should be OK. And I need schweet latency. I'm not so phased about ultra high download speeds.

I'd be content with 20GB international at the current prices and happy with 20GB at half the price.

A couple of days ago I watched a few YouTube clips on soaring (gliding) in the European Alps and was shocked to see how bandwidth it used.
Two hours used over 200MB!
So I went and took a look at the Flash Player cache files (stored in /tmp/Flash* on Linux) and a 10 minute clip is about 25MB.

3GB is a freaking joke for legitimate use unless one only uses it for light surfing and e-mail.

Guys, when I was back in Egypt, I used to download about a gig a day, at least, with a 256k connection. Personally, the speed wasn't too bad, it was actually above acceptable, but mainly because I could get that speed any time of the day, including so called 'peak' time. With that in mind, i would say AT LEAST bring our standards up to Egypt's (for those of you who are wondering, Egypt is an extremely poor country, and yet they have almost as many DSL users as us... just sad)

So that would be ~R100 for a 256k uncapped solution. Or about R380 for a PROPER 1Mbit connection, of course with no cap.

For more comparison, check out http://www.tedata.net/ADSL_pricing.htm

Yeah, its ridiculous. All the other places here in Africa have better internet deals than us.
They also have less money than us.etc

I really dont understand it. Why they would want to make us suffer.etc
If they were to drop their prices or increase their caps (or just go uncapped) then im sure A LOT more people would sign up for ADSL and their profit would be MUCH higher.

It would benefit both us and Telkom!

EDIT: I wonder what would happen if we were to email that link to Telkom showing them that other places in Africa which have less money than us and probably poor infrastructures.etc have cheaper ADSL compared to us. They would probably have some pathetic reply or they might not even reply.

I think im going to do just that and see what happens. Im sure it would be faitly interesting and entertaining! :D

How many GB's?
I have absolutely no clue. I am so used to counting bytes, I don't dare venture into any bandwidth intensive applications. When I had dialup, I did maybe 30 MB in a month.
Now that I'm getting 250 MB on 3G, I get a small taste of what the internet has to offer every now and then, so the 250 MB isn't enough anymore.

The more bandwidth I buy, the more I will probably want.

When I signed up for do1, it was just to see how many GBs would be my norm on a faster speed than dialup.

Month 1: Got capped around the 10th.
Month 2: Got capped around the 6th.
Month 3: Got capped around the 3rd.

So, basically I have to buy about 3 or 4 prepaid GBs from WA to survive the month. I'm gonna change to do2 but I can't see those 4GBs lasting at all. I think 30GB should be the bare minimum. If you give us a lot then we won't have to hammer the network trying to finish our GBs before the month is over, usage will level out if we have higher caps. I'm actually sick of saying this all the time but I'm hoping someone out their hears us and does something.

I've always maintained the only reason you have "abusers" is because people feel they are being robbed and will thus milk the system for all its worth.

Consider how I use my local IS 30GB. For the most part I could probably use 15GB max a month. However the inefficient nature of SA broadband means I will log on to newshost everyday and see what new is there. Then I will download stuff that I know I probably I wont use. Why? Because if I don't get it now I will have to get it at less than 10kB/s later. So I end up using as much of the 30Gb every month. The inefficiencies mean that I effectively use twice what I would per month.

Exactly, just give us high cap SAIX accounts and we use the SAIX server to get our stuff whenever we want at full speeds instead of forcing us to clog everything up.

60 would be enough for now

50 would be ok

30 should be the minimun and not 3g.
