How many MXit users are there really?

Not surprising that number's inflated since they don't delete inactive users.

MXit – a mobile chat and entertainment platform - recently announced that it has surpassed the 5 million subscriber mark. The company told MyBroadband that it currently has 5.7 million subscribers of which 5.2 million are South African users.

And how many paedo's? :)

well whatever the numbers it's a lot

Im not sure really... Maybe its past my age range, but I think its shrinking(active users), cant speak for the teenagers though...

They eventually grow up and might migrate to computers and social networking sites such as facebook.

IME older people (20s) still use it, maybe not as much as the teenagers but still quite a bit, but they use it mainly to chat to existing friends, they don't use all the other services that Mxit makes money on as much, although I suppose they do still see the advertising. Personally I find it irritating. :D:p

The same question should be asked about Cell subscribers.
i'm cant recall the figures but dont vodacom claim to have 27 million subscribers. add the other cell companies you have way more then 40 million people in the country where many are to young to have a cellphone and some are not in an area to coverage.... I guess some people have 5 contracts to get the free DVD player....
so i guess the question to them would also be how many active users on the network?

Most SP bulk subscriber numbers come from prepaid users, any prepaid sim activated in the last 6 months will count, inactive numbers are not counted.
With the new ICASA ruling only prepaid users who are registered ie: have submitted ID doc and proof of residents are to be counted.

Contract numbers Im sure are 100% correct.
So the numbers are more less correct.

This cant be true Or even used as stats.
Their numbers will never decline, unless they start deleting inactive users, thats if they can.

Depends on your definition. :p :)

Quoted figures are "23 million customers in South Africa, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lesotho and Mozambique". http://www.vodacom.com/vodacom/about_vodacom/introduction.jsp
I think the figure is a lot more accurate since they decided to boot the non-paying "users".

They won't migrate imo, they already use both. No reason to drop mxit, the appeal is that it's mobile and not fixed to a computer.

Btw. see the latest MXit article? They report more than 9,000,000 logins per day for an userbase that is estimated to only be in the hundreds of thousands or under a million. Still wondering where all these millions of "simultaneous" and users staying on all day are coming from.
Yes, I read the article, I have read & followed the posts with interest, and was wondering why you hadn't posted anything yet - until this afternoon.

How many of those 9 million MXit logins are repeat logins, e.g. people that don't stay logged in continuously throughout a day and login several times per day, as well as connections dropping and requiring a subsequent login when reconnected?

If you have Mxit contacts on your MSN you will see how often they have to keep on logging in when they have problems, it gets crazy.

Of course you also close your cellphone or "alt tab" (You have to close mxit for this on many phones) to do anything else on your phone. Because its mobile people log in during the day for short periods at school etc whenever they have the chance.

So I'd say a huge number are repeat logins.

Whoah bs

Whoah, 5mil? meaning that almost 1 in 9 people have it. This is probably true since a load of people download & install it, but personally... I'm from Stellenbosch(Mxit HQ), on SUN Campus & ~ 505 Personal friends on facebook and I only know THREE people that use MXIT.

I think Facebook.Mobile was an instant Mxit Killer.

It has been about 6 years since I last used MSN - ekke haat vensters ook jy weet, but I do have MXit contacts in GMail and they do tend to be on & off like a see-saw...
